It’s so much more pleasant to think that this was their rationale, rather than just sloppy writing. (Where does all that money go? Certainly not in research and good background props) Of course Gibbs would know this stuff after being in the field for so long. So yay for fixing things!

But what really got me in this is Gibbs and his mother in law. So many layers of hurt and history between them, and so much similarity in the way they dealt, and now, this sense of an irrevocable, lost past...

Gibbs got Ms. Hart spot on

Hi, now this makes a whole lot more sense! I could never understand why Leon went along with letting Joann of the hook. Gibbs goes free for 'justified killing', and so does his mother-in-law. Not with you!
Maybe Joann wouldn't have felt the need, if Gibbs had told her that their girls had been avenged back when. I'm still waiting for Mac, Shannon's father to turn up on the show.

Oh, this is so much better than the original! It makes so much more sense - yes, Gibbs has certainly given people a break in the past (Mike Franks comes to mind), but he has no debt of gratitude or feelings of affection to cause a moment of weakness towards Joann. He is willing to help her, but not to the point of risking his own career and freedom.

(I've never understood why Vance felt the need to hide Abby's report rather than shred it, nor why Abby was so upset about the prospect of having to testify. Abby wasn't an official investigator in Hernandez' case - she was only presenting an example of how to run an investigation to a class of students. There was no resaon for her to even have written the report in the first place!)

Thank you for fixing that episode up! The episode's plot and writing was so sloppy and just so plain dumb I was actually embarrassed for the NCIS script writers.

The close of this episode always bugged me, also. I much prefer your ending! Nice combination of well-written legal information with the drama and emotions of the scene!

I liked this. I don't know points of law, but you laid out the problems and gave a more realistic view/solution than the show's version while keeping them as in character as possible.
