For a moment I thought Ace's joining Luffy's crew. But anyway great story!

This was good! I really like the way you worded these lines:

'It sounded like romance, like adventures – like actually living. / Ace wondered if he'd been dead all this time.'

And I love the moment where Ace uses haki and Luffy freaks out. "HOW DO YOU KNOW THE FIST OF LOVE?! DID YOU SPEAK TO MY GRAMPS, DID YOU?" / "The Fist of Lo—okay, that's creepy."

You're a great writer and I'm looking forward to reading more of your stories. Especially in this verse!

This is hilarious! Like, best response ever. And I almost died with:

'Could you really blame Ace for insisting on whacking the dude on the head? Because it clearly had no effect, and maybe Ace was beginning to completely freak out. Maybe. Possibly. / "WHY WON'T YOU DIE, YOU WEIRDO?!" / "EEEH?! YOU WANNA KILL ME?! SOMEBODY, HEEELLLLP!" / "I'M THE ONE WHO SHOULD YELL FOR HELP! DIE, ALREADY, DIE!"

I just love the way you write. This introduction was the best. (It kind of reminds me of canon, except where this is instinct that was completely on purpose.) And I didn't bother to check whether or not I already reviewed this, so you might be getting a bonus here. :D

Great story! And wonderful idea! I always love reading what ifs, especially if it's on Ace, because he's such an interesting character. He was just supposed to be a plot device, but damn did his death ~hurt~. I've never been so affected by a side character's death as much as Ace's!

You know I've always wondered why Ray never went looking for Ace, or even the other Roger pirates, given how loyal they were to Roger. Sure they're pirates, but most of the pirates in One Piece are such saps anyway, why would they not protect the only living piece of their captain? Of course One Piece has always been about Luffy but still... hahaha It hurts knowing that Ray, or even Shanks, or really anyone else other than Garp, could've given Ace a better life, at least a life without hating his existence, but didn't.

Anyway, went off on a tangent there hahaha but I do love this! I'd like to believe Ace found the Whitebeards, instead of Rayleigh, and proceeded to be his awesome self. And because he's not as affected by his heritage, perhaps if he still was captured by the Marines, he would have fought for his life knowing that he too deserves to live? Haha! Thank you for writing this! Enjoyed reading this a lot!

While reading I tried to guess what's Ace next action will be. It had me wondering till the very end. Just when I thought he might just abandon Luffy with a map and a boat, he actually went out of his way to get Luffy to the Grand Line. Knowing how stubborn Ace is I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to stay in Baterilla. Gotta thank Luffy for working his magic!

Though I kinda did feel for Luffy when Ace actually got bigger bounty than him in like 3 months already. Did his name play a role in it? Because it sure looks like it if everyone knows he's Roger's son...

Usually I just scroll past those stories that have "What if" in summary or title. It's mostly because there's so many 'what if's' in one story happening at the same time and it might as well look like one very messy story. But I did find your kind of different since you take that one "what if" and write the story from it. Because of that one change some might not get saved, like in this case (probably) Coby since Luffy in a barrel arrived to the South Blue instead of the ship raided by Alvida.

Gotta say, I love the setting of this story.

How Ace grew up without having to hear about "If Roger had a son, he should die" caught my interest. In a lot of stories Ace just is so full of hate towards Roger... in this one he just doesn't know the man and that it. At least by the looks of it.

It would be interesting to see how Luffy and Sabo's life childhood, teen years and maybe early adulthood went without Ace. But if you stick mostly to Ace, I don't think it would be so bad, really, it's a story about him after all.

Anyway, I really like it. So if you update it, it would be really nice XD
