I love how you showed the captain enthusing over his ship. The dialogue is really sparkling like this and you've created a lovely backstory for Carmina.

While I dislike Anders' actions, I just can't find it in me to disagree with them. Elthina's refusal to act made her complicit in the abuse, even if her head was up in the clouds too much to notice. Anders needs a hug.

I really like Marni! It honestly surprised me a little, but your characterization is very consistent. Anders' angst is so all-encompassing, poor baby. I'm so curious how you weave all this around Inquisition!

Delgado and Carmina make me want to be a pirate (except for the whole slave-trading thing). You are very good at making characters come to life, including secondary characters. Not something with which a lot if authors do well.

Oh man, this was a good addition. So much depth into Alexius's character. You've really done justice to his dilemma. I remember when my dad informed us that he was stopping all his treatments, and we knew that death wasn't just something that would happen in a year or so – it would be a matter of months, if not weeks. As it was, it turned out to be mere weeks. So this chapter has hit me hard.
