I have an idea for you:

The pairing is a female Flamedramon, and a male human.
The human is not very big, and gets bullied. She puts more than a few of the bullies in their place but, as big and strong as she is, she's very sweet and tender to him, and genuinely loves and cares for him.
Things like her having him sit on her lap and she strokes his hair, soft kisses on the cheek, things like that.
I could see she sleeps in his bed on a cold, rainy day to keep him warm, and it goes from there.
Sweet, gentle, tender romance.;)
