James is surprisingly mature in this fic, which I wish you would continue.

Sadly, Lily showed herself to not be that open minded and much more strong willed than people think, judging by how she acted in canon.

As for the life debt, James was perfectly safe as Prongs, and didn't risk a thing to rescue Snape-plus, his actions were more to save Remus from being put down than to save Snape. Also, when you nearly kill someone by dropping them on their head 'because they exist' after nearly choking them to death with a Scourgify, I think the life debt has been used up.

But this is a neat premise, and I wish you would continue this story.

A very thought provoking look into the possibilities of ones own choices and living honorably no matter where your starting point is. I know the archive blurb says "complete", but I'd like to see how you would carry this approach foreward. I've always been depressed by the way our children and grandchildren have been left to fight our wars. That's the biggest problem I have with JKR's imagination. She leaves this human failing completely in tact. This flawed approach has never solved any war.

Very excited to see where this goes! I will be following this one.

This is such a fascinating "what if". I've never seen this idea for a Harry Potter story before. I especially love the idea that, as his long-time nemesis, James is the only one who could have some idea about Severus's intricate code of honor. He really should have been secret-keeper.
