Well, Severus ought to be a better flyer with all that practice from Wendyll-and the wren can help him keep a eye out for the Marauders, aerial reconnaissance can be your friend.

You've captured the little wren perfectly - I especially liked the descriptions of the saucy flips of her wings and tail, the warmth of her little head and her irrepressible penchant for baiting those owls. (hopefully she has long outgrown this habit by the time Hedwig came to school - she should with the amount of years that have flown past!)

Also liked how your captured Severus' wonder with Hogwarts and learning how life would be much easier than at home. Bathroom fixtures wise, that is *grins*

The flying lesson was nicely done, the description of the wind currents and all... *squints at you suspiciously* Are you sure you didn't have a wren of your own sitting on your shoulder and whispering secrets that only birds should know into your ear?

Anyhow, Wendyll sitting in the twigs of the broom made for an adorable mental image as well as Severus fashioning a nest for her from his towel.

Lily was still a good friend of course, but there's nothing like a mother figure accompanying Severus around and being small enough to hide on his person. They do look after each other, just like how family should.

A wonderfully heart warming story with bits of humour tucked here and there. Thank you so much for this gift, Ree!

So nice to see a contented Severus enjoying his first year at Hogwarts. It was a different perspective than what we usually see, mostly because of Wendyll and the clear, lasting affection that she has for him. Watching him learning to fly on a broom is interesting, since he clearly eschews that choice later in life, though you did lay a trail towards him flying on his own later on, courtesy of Wendyll. That caught my attention.
I love your alternate views of Severus and how his life could have been different with a little bit more love in it. Thanks for this version, and for the other stories in it that have also charmed me.

Wendyll is a little Gryffindor, isn't she? Teasing owls, like that. And I love the way she insists on being right in the midst of his sorting. She's very mothering, too. Love the way she insists on teaching Sev the finer points of the wind. Just as a momma bird should.

Nice touch where Sev is happy he won't have to cart water for his wash-up, hopefully he'll discover the showers before someone discovers he doesn't know about them.
