| 1049286 chapter 4 . 9/11/2018 At first I found it out of character for Kaneki to scream out loud after his nightmare (because in the manga it's shown that he just quietly jolts awake on his bad nights) and I just found his whole demeanor to be rather off, but then I realized it could easily be explained away by one seemingly minor detail. Kaneki was saved rather than escaping on his own. He never went through his final "transformation". He didn't fully accept himself as a ghoul, break free from his binds, defeat Jason with his own strength, inflict torture upon his torturer, and then choose to leave Yamori alive for the CCG to find. Instead he fell asleep in the chair and woke up in the castle. No resolution. No acceptance. That door is still open and waiting for Yamori to come bulldozing in. It doesn't matter if Yamori is dead. It doesn't matter that Kaneki is in a completely different country. Kaneki never got his closure and that could leave him more emotionally vulnerable than we otherwise see. |
