It's a great story. By the time Jess and Rory dated though he likely would have already had his 18th birthday. The date is never specified and they change his age at one point to make him younger than he originally was. I like the book a year idea and I could see all three of these people acting like this. Jess wasn't treated well by Stars Hollow, but he and Rory had real chemistry that showed on screen in both season 2 and 3. Oddly their best episodes together were actually before they were dating in season 2.

I just realised I forgot to review this the first time. I really enjoyed how Luke made the effort to make sure his nephew had a great birthday.

Thanks for this, especially "You matter". Sad and warm and fuzzy and funny too. There's not enough well done Luke and Jess stuff around, but this was lovely.

Lovely story, thank you for writing it. You've perfectly captured the way I see Jess when he's not in conflict with someone. Terse, introspective, defensive about his past, yet open to love.
The pacing was good, no wasted time, but you said everything that needed to be said.

I'm looking forward to more.

You did a great job, especially considering that this is your very first fic! First off, im surprised that Jess didn't say that they were holding hands and skipping...that part always makes me laugh. I thought Rory's gift of a book per year was cool. How did you swing that? It wasn't based on publication date, so ability?

Jess admitting that his mom didn't celebrate any of his birthdays was so sad. Like really stepped it up when he said what he said to Jess. Hope I'll be just as good of a parent when my turn to think on my feet occurs.
