I love! Something about keeping us in Eriks head while he worked on the monkey really set the tone and atmosphere and really let us feel like we were solidly in the character’s head. Like, I feel like I *know* this Erik now, feel like I understand him, somehow all because of these beautiful paragraphs. This chapter was really something! Excellent writing

Now I seem to understand the synopsis. I can't imagine how Erik will escape with his life. And how strange it will seem to me Erik without those fire-like eyes. Somehow, that just makes me sad, and I can't explain why. Have a good day.

Looks like Erik is doomed but he wouldn’t have survived to become the Angel of Death if he couldn’t get himself out of a sticky spot when needed. Not sure Nadir would just leave him to it so maybe he will have a further hand in Eriks escape from Persia ?
