Reviews for A Yuletide Tale
Sophie Michard chapter 1 . 7/2/2018
Hum, the children should be older... Elves don't have many children, because the mother and father need to use their Fëa to feed their young's one. And it's tiring.

Apart from this, it's a wonderful story, about grief and acceptance. During a joyful moment of the year. Not for all, and it's well done how you showed Brethil's pain.

At the end, they cried and remembered together. :)
Eneicia Took chapter 1 . 7/30/2012
:'( :') Such a sad story! Yet it's a happy one too!
Elf of Sirannon chapter 1 . 8/3/2004
I started to read this one the other day at work and for some reason I didn't get through it all.

Anyway, Legolas is very cute hopping down the path in his green cloak with the picnic basket full of goodies. I'm thinking, Little Red Riding Hood! I just somehow couldn't get that connection out of my mind, lol :)

Glaurhunant's reflection on Brethil's condition after the death of his father was very sweet, and really sad. I'm glad he still has his nana. And Brethil coming to her in the night and hugging her when she cries; aw. (How did Bronadui die again? I'm not sure if you've ever stated).

I like also Tanglinna's musings on Brethil; he probably more than any other in the realm must know how Brethil feels, after all he lost both his parents at a young age too, didn't he? And the image of Tanglinna cooking is cute.

How long is it until Brenilass goes to the Halls of Mandos? I know Laerland must have been so very young when it happened but it's really sad, a baby needs her mama.

kingmaker chapter 1 . 7/26/2003
Aw, how sweet.

The background to Brethilitis was interesting, and I am quite glad to know that the Elves have no more luck defending their birdfeeders from squirrels than we humans do.
LegalanGreenleaf chapter 1 . 6/8/2003
Aw... so cute... I love stories like this. You put just enough detail into your descriptions and, you even made me cry at least three times! I want to read this over, and over, but, alas there is no time at the moment. Keep writing!

Elf of Sirannon chapter 1 . 2/19/2003
I've read a lot of your stories about the Tricksy Trio but not all of them. This was so sad. I never before focused too greatly on the sad times which I know Legolas and his friends had to have growing up. Poor lil Brethil.

Also, I just finished reading Once Upon A Time in Hollin, and I saw that both Brethil and Tanglinna were killed. HOW COULD YOU BE SO MEAN? *weeps* I loved both of them. Is Tavor OK? Please tell me he hasn't died also. *sigh*
alliwantisanelfforchristmas chapter 1 . 2/4/2003
I love being your beta.

I love how you get all the details in, even down to the wiggling of the toes to get the socks straight inside the boots. Tell me, though, would he really have stopped to fix the intricate child's braid had it been mussed, considering snowball fights and sliding around await him?

Describing the embroidery on the linens, the evergreens and ribbons in the great dining room, the smells of cinnamon... I can all but taste the delicacies that will be eaten there. Even old Gruff Tanglinna is affected by the Magic of Yuletide, Thank the Valar!

Sometimes all we have to offer our friends in their grief is our presence(ok, and maybe a snowball). Nothing we say seems to help, and all we can do is just be there. Legolas and Tavor are doing pretty good for such young ones, at least I think so.

Ahhhhh! Hot rich cocoa! No wonder he still likes chocolate so much. Now we're having arrow and spider cookies, baked by a Master Archer and a King themselves! I would have paid good money to see that one firsthand!

How exquisite your description of the memorial carving of Bronaduin. I especially loved the little squirrel on his shoulder and the small bird perched on his hand. A real tear jerker, this part here!

Could we buy some stock in the company that makes Wizard Yule Socks? I think it might be a good and wise thing, since there is likely to be a great demand for them by next Yuletide.

I wasn't sure that a relapse of Brethilitis was a good thing until I read this fic, and I must say I am more than happy to see the condition return. May Brethil find comfort and joy in his memories of his dear Ada.
