Reviews for Dragon Souls
Marcus S. Lazarus chapter 31 . 10/17/2019
An intriguing and engaging new take on events, to say the least.
I’ve seen a few storylines going with the idea that Hiccup was abducted along with Valka and joined her in the Dragon Sanctuary, but it’s fascinating to see how things are affected when it’s Astrid living in the Sanctuary while Valka never left Berk in the first place.
Finna makes for an interesting new character in the franchise, giving Hiccup a few important nudges in the right direction in Astrid’s absence while still maintaining her own unique relationship with him, and you manage to give us some interesting hints about Astrid’s life in this reality compared to what she experienced on Berk.
While the scenes following the death of Icespitter felt like you were trying a bit too hard to be mysterious in a manner I didn’t entirely follow, and I wouldn’t have said ‘no’ to a little more attention being given to Hiccup and Astrid/Flametorch having the chance to interact without anyone else present, their ‘vision quest’ (for lack of a better term for their meeting with that other Night Fury) was an interesting touch, and you certainly gave us some interesting moments after Drago’s attack left them temporarily separated.
Besides, the final battle was still suitably dramatic; Toothless gets his moment as always, and the humans get their own chance to deal with Drago man-to-man rather than just driving him off by defeating his dragon.
A bit more attention could have been paid to Astrid meeting the rest of Berk after the final confrontation, but you at least acknowledged the issues the people might have with Astrid as their potential future chieftess, and create intriguing possibilities for the future.
As far as future plans go, I’d be open to a sequel or a reboot; I certainly wouldn’t say ‘no’ to more details about the prophecy and Hiccup and Astrid’s connection in this history, although I’d keep Drago as the villain if you go for the reboot as he provides an effective foil to Hiccup’s ambitions (Grimmel is fundamentally a more personal threat with his fixation on Toothless, where Drago’s plans for conquest with dragons is a better contrast to Hiccup’s goal of peace).
Merecor chapter 31 . 7/29/2019
I loved this story, and consider it one of my favorite FF reads. You do good work, and I've become enamored with this AU you've created. Can't wait to see a sequel!

Aw, that's so happy and sad.

Keep on Writin' and Rockin'

(And for the record I'm all for a sequel to this but if you want to revamp the story that's okay too. But I'm more for the sequel just to be clear.)
Emeraldshard chapter 30 . 1/31/2019
It would e best to have a different title and SQUEAL TO DRAGON SOULS in the summary.
Emeraldshard chapter 29 . 1/30/2019
Yes to everything.

I'd love to read a sequel to this! This story is one of my absolute favourites in the fandom and if you make a sequel that would be like a dream come true, no matter what genre you decide to make it. I look forward to the next installment!

P.S. Though I haven't seen The Hidden World yet due to the release being delayed I'm my country, I'll gladly read your story and spoil myself (though I have seen a lot of spoilers as of late).

duskyflower chapter 29 . 1/28/2019
Quick note: wild wolves don’t actually have alphas/betas/omegas or challenge each other for dominance. Those only occur in captive settings, with unrelated wolves, because wild wolves consist of family units led by the breeding pair (the parents) and their pups (with their older children usually leaving the pack). Sometimes in cases like Yellowstone (which is a really, really weird place ecology-wise) there’s exceptions but I don’t think vikings would know about alpha wolves. Of course, they might have observed dogs or other animals, but generally it doesn’t apply to wolves. That’s a weird nitpick but I thought you might want to know! Otherwise, great job and I’m glad you’ve returned to this story!
