This was great and the flashback mirrored the scene in the episode perfectly.

I liked the parallel you made with the flashback and the actual scene in the show! Like you, I first thought Dean asked Sam to close his eyes because he didn't want to stare in the face of his brother's soulfulness. But then I like the way you put it with Dean not wanting Sam to see when he hurts him, even if it's necessary. Your insightful flashback fit the moment perfectly! Thank you for sharing!

Oh, jeez. This episode did NOT make me cry until I read your lovely story, Sam. Your flashbacks are SO spot on - of COURSE that's why Dean wanted him to close his eyes - because he couldn't bear to see Sam's pain staring back at him. And then that's how Sam realizes the brother he adores is still in there somewhere...good golly, this one had the waterworks going full blast. In a good way. Except that I read this during a break at work, so the timing might not have been great. Once again, I am so impressed by your talent and visceral understanding of these characters. You're one of the best. Thanks! :)
