I express my deepest sympathies as well. 2018 has also been a rotten year for me. Going through some deep emotional situations, stress, isolation, and depression this year. But you know what, I keep reading your stories over and over again especially this one. The chapter of Hopeless Wanderer is my most favorite, it's really a beautiful chapter that keeps motivating me and I keep checking endlessly if this story will continue cause I absolutely love its story, mostly about Toothless's past life and the other nightfuries, I've almost forgotten or simply care less about the story going on Berk. But overall, I'm glad this story and of course your other stories will be continued.
I hope the holidays and 2019 can put some light back to your life.

your story now stands at 200 odd thousand words and while I like it well enough (I read the whole bloody thing in three days afterall) tRotN has the same main problem as "I,Alone" has. Pacing! at the speed the story is developing you will finish somewhere between 6-8 hundred thousand words in 5 years earliest.
the premise is a vengeance/redemption/revenge story and for that to happen Hiccup needs to toughen up, develop and get stronger... and that can only happen through time passing. but so far only maybe a month has passed.
the story started great, I don't think I put my phone down for the first 10-15 chapters, but the whole nightfurry island arc is just a slog (I know, I am a year and a half to late to complain about that), most chapters doing little to none to actually progress the story, instead we have 10 chapters of how miserable Hiccup is that you could have saved yourself. I am not saying cut the while arc but instead be clear to yourself where you want your story to go and make your story go there without getting stuck in a quagmire of redundant chapters.
the story only starts picking up pace again after the rantchapter 40) and is finally going somewhere again.
(btw. I like what you are doing with Astrid a lot)

So... to anybody who hasn't read this story and reads this, go ahead, the story is good, but you can skip the whole night island arc without missing much and pick up at ~ch.35

Finish rereading this again and man I hope you continue this story caude this is by far the greatest httyd fanfic I've read. I'm really interested in Dathomir's relationshio with hiccup and his seemingly war on Toothless to have Hiccup as his companion. So much so that I want a separate story arc about this. But first this story has to continue

Ya, very foreshadow heavy this chapter. And honestly I find it a little surprising that the Queen can just enter Hiccups so so easily without him knowing about it. But then again, if she went through Toothless then that unregulated bond would allow her access that he wouldn’t be able to sense. And now she is controlling him like the other dragons? Well this is going to be some interesting next few chapters.

Razor I want to say that you have written a good story. It is better than what I have written in the past that is for sure, but I find myself loosing interest in it. It's nothing against the story's premise or anything, it's just to me that characters seem to rigid in their character models. There really isn't any evolution in their feelings or responses. Again this is just my opinion, and please don't take this as being rude or anything. I know hiccup is now under the Red Death's influence and I know the nightfuries are still very hesitant to trust him, but there has to be more than 4 other furies that see him differently at least. I saw this all only to help you out. I mean it's you're story and you write it the way you want it, but again I don't mean this rudely in anyway and I'm sorry if it comes across as such. I really am.

So... The old nest of Toothless is ignorant of the great peril in the Volcano island near Berk and might all of them to be Vanquished, ,Destroyed or trapped in their bodies . One of them when Tooth/Shadow remembered and the one who liked Hiccups' art sincerely at least they deserve a chance and the most of them . But the two which... done everything to humiliate , I didn't like and I don't care for those but I hope to change.
and those who test Hic-Tooth Bond/Friendship is on the middle line uncertain .

Anyway. ... Hiccup felt some calling but from what ?
He needs to protect his mind as well .
Prepare when meet the Demon in the Volcano with better equipment too and where to go after .
