This is good, really interested to see where this goes. I really like how you distracted us from Kat until the end when Anna finally realized he was missing. I even forgot about the bird until you pointed it out!
Also I get what you're saying about not knowing how to reach the different phases in a story. I always find myself struggling on how to get from A to B. It's frustrating when you know where you want to go, but not how to get there. Sometimes you just got to make yourself write and see what happens. Even if it's bad, at least it's progress.
