Reviews for What the Storm Brings
Belial Hieronymus chapter 7 . 5/16/2019
Viserys is such a sweet boy.
Blinded in a bolthole chapter 3 . 4/19/2019
Willem I don't like. Too self righteous and too blinded by missplaced loyalty.
Blinded in a bolthole chapter 8 . 7/3/2018
Maybe guilt of sending this wise, thoughtful and young Viserys to the wall would make Need try harder to prevent Jon from doing the same... Regardless of Jon's parentage.
d.e chapter 2 . 5/24/2018
Jon never realised what monster Robert was,
Guest chapter 8 . 4/22/2018
I know that as a guest review this late, you probably won't see this, but I hope you do.
Anyway, love the story as it's a nice AU that so far keeps true to everyone's character despite the different circumstances. I love this version of Viserys and how being raised in the north changed(or helped if you prefer) him. He still bears that sense of arrogance that we come to know from the guy, but he's much nicer, braver, and skilled, no doubt traits he gained growing up under the Starks as well as fighting wildlings at the wall. I am curious about how the wall is with Viserys and Jon Connington there though. JC obviously isn't raising Young Griff this time around, with that role being passed over to the Martells, so will the kid be raised as a basterd? He'd have to be raised in a secretive way to avoid Robert and his wrath. What about the dragon eggs? I think a cool AU idea would be instead of Dany getting all the dragon eggs, how about one for each of the remaining Targaryens? One goes North to Viserys, one to Dragonstone for Dany, and one to Dorne for Aegon. I just think that would be a cool idea. Heck, a dragon at the wall would really improve their odds against the Others(white walkers). Why Jon Snow doesn't get one, well I don't think even Varys is aware of the kid's heritage(that is assuming this goes the show route and makes RLJ, though that was already a popular theory). Even then, say he was, giving him a dragon would set off all kinds of red flags. If Jon goes to the wall to become a member of the watch, then he and Viserys can share a dragon.
Speaking of which, back to the wall, how is it now? From what I've read from this, Viserys is in a high position(a commander if I read correctly) and it sounds like he's been doing a good job. Heck, with all the Targaryen loyalists sent there, combined with having a former Targaryen prince at the wall, they may be a lot more unified and capable than they were at the start of the series. This could even be reflected through characters like Alliser Thorne if you choose. While many hate him(both in and out of universe), it is ignored that a lot of the reasons for why he is that way stem from the fact that he was a Targaryen loyalist. He fought for the crown against the rebels. How was he rewarded? The rebels become the rulers and he's sent to the end of the world. That's a pretty big chip on anyone's shoulder. In this AU, not only is one of his fellow men a Targaryen(and one of the then royals that he fought for), but he has spent the last seventeen years or so surrounded by people who have been through what he has. If comments made by others are anything to go by, the wall is now full of loyalists to the old dragon kings. So he may end up being much nicer at the start as well. This also may end up giving Jon a more positive view on the Watch from the get go. With Viserys there, he'll probably hold it to a higher standard than he did in the books(the prior chapter showed that the Stark children look up to him as a sort of big brother figure). Though again, I am mainly spitballing with future potential, and even then it's your story to tell.
sephacles chapter 5 . 4/28/2017
Can't dislike Jonelle Cerwyn. I know of House Cerwyn only what I've read in the books but you wrote her character well, IMO.
sephacles chapter 5 . 4/28/2017
Little Renly and little Viserys, so cute!
Guest chapter 8 . 1/17/2017
Brilliant. Looking forward to reading the sequel, now.
Guest chapter 5 . 1/17/2017
Great chapter.
John Spangler chapter 1 . 10/2/2016
I just wanted to say that I've enjoyed this story. It's really well written and realistic. I hope you'll come back to writing soon, because I'm really curious to see how this AU'll develop from here.
Derp chapter 1 . 8/30/2016
Is there no sequel yet? Nooooooooo!
Derp chapter 6 . 8/30/2016
This is amazing. I'm so excited to read everything you've written!
Derp chapter 1 . 8/29/2016
This is very promising so far!
Hypothetical Spiritual Entity chapter 8 . 6/26/2016
This seems quite interesting, as far as timelines go. And it helps that all of this could easily have happened with that one divergence at the beginning.
Loves to read books chapter 2 . 4/5/2016
Love that you used the blood of the convenient quote right.
Drives me crazy when people say "blood is thicker than water". It doesn't even make sense.
Great chapter!
