Reviews for The Lost
FanGirl4Life16 chapter 2 . 9/10
I absolutely loved this story (especially Linzin and Aunt Lin in chapters 1/2 respectively). I think you perfectly captured Lin/Su’s relationship and Su’s growth in realizing that Lin never had malicious intent in what she was doing 30 years ago.

Great job!
Guest chapter 2 . 7/9/2016
This was amazing and I like how Lin and Suyin got to understand each other better.
metalbendingmistress chapter 2 . 4/20/2016
Oh, my. This story deserves all the comments in the world. It is so beautifully written from the plot to the imagery, and how you tied it all together. The characterizations were also spot on and it fits so well into canon! ugh, the way suyin talks about how the town changed and the girl who stole the ring...I cannot deal; It nearly brought me to tears. I love how Suyin kind of got a taste of her own medicine.

I thought the first chapter ripped my heart out, but evidently there was something left because the second chapter...oh gosh. Great job!
Arkepelago chapter 2 . 4/18/2016
Great story and the feels...
metalbendingmistress chapter 1 . 2/14/2016
That was so heartbreaking. You did a wonderful job.
Lin chapter 1 . 11/29/2015
(yes, that is the screename I use, had it long before LOK)

This is so in character and sad. A depressing beautiful look into the Beifong sisters estrangement. You have a great talent for emotion- I felt for Lin and Katara when they faced the possibility of the dead girl being Su. I knew it wouldn't be, and yet i too was holding my breath. and Su's brattiness... Good LORD I wanted to smack her and shout "SHE THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD YOU IDIOT! EVERYBODY IS WORRIED! And then Lin sadly granting Su what she wanted and quite literally burying their past. I have always felt for Lin regarding her family dynamic, and this reminds me why Su has her haters.
GottaGoBuyCheese chapter 1 . 7/28/2015
Well, that was satisfyingly sad...terrifically written, though! I really enjoyed it!
Guest chapter 1 . 4/27/2015
So Sad... Su rejecting her sister and all. But nice job. I think you really captured the essence of younger Su and Lin.
Dan Ingram chapter 1 . 4/26/2015
Interesting little story. I really think Lin got screwed on the family part of her characters, by the writers and narrative, and this story reflects what I think is a fairer take on it all.

Nice characterization all around.
afterhours000 chapter 1 . 4/26/2015
Great story! I was listening to "Missing" by Everything But the Girl" as I read this. I wanted to smack some sense into Su.
avatarfanlin chapter 1 . 4/26/2015
damn, this was very good. it was a nice take on their relatonship
Secret River Fan chapter 1 . 4/26/2015
Oh, god, Su. She is the worst.

I like this take on canon, where Lin and Su *do* have one last encounter between 30 years of silence. There’s also so much to enjoy, like and both Lin and Katara dropping their own names when it will get their goals accomplished quicker. I also like the peek into Lin and Tenzin’s lives during this time period. It’s always nice to see other characters get angry on Lin’s behalf…though I’d like to think Tenzin might be more than mildly annoyed after learning that Su scarred Lin. I love that Lin feels comfortable taking bison for travel. Also like the little details like her earthbending steps for the other officers.

I’m sorry but meditating trips in the mountains with a dozen acolytes sounds boring as hell, even with Aang.

I don’t fault Lin one bit for ignoring Su’s “reaching out” whatever that entailed during that time. I wouldn’t acknowledge Su’s existence either. She is such a brat still. First she’s annoyed when Lin tracks her down out of concern, then she’s annoyed that Lin is also trying to be a detective. I kind of marvel at Su’s absolute disdain for any sort of official authority, whether it’s the police force or the monarchy, given how she runs Zaofu. Su is absolutely spoiled and Toph’s favorite yet she doesn’t seem to care or respect her mother’s job. It’s also interesting that you write her deliberately quashing fleeting feelings of empathy and guilt. It doesn’t appear that Su would have reacted positively to Lin doing anything short of falling on her knees, sobbing and singing Su’s praises.

Ah, this was very well written but ultimately pretty depressing. Lin’s family sucks and then in the next decade she loses her extended family entirely. Lin deserved better.
demoisellecamille chapter 1 . 4/25/2015
Fantastic story! It was very engaging from the start and I think you did a great job of portraying the dynamics between the Beifong sisters.
