This was really a sad chapter. But I would suggest that you explain this more, how Nate and Jewel came to be together.

Don't stack up the conflict, if you aiming for rising tension, try to make it more reasonable by describing it clearly

with that, the conflict will less confusing and you can achieve a better resolution later

trust me, stacking up conflict and resolution is a VERY bad idea.

Well, maybe Carla took a glimpse of another Macaw that she like or the Ipod that she found while her family that aren't watching. I think finding the Ipod is a good one because it explains how she get it in Rio 2, no offense. I leave these as suggestions.
