Italian Hobbit chapter 4 . 10/19/2015
oh Dís, my love, my darling, you didn't deserve any of this.

I feel like I could feel Fíli's little hand in mine somehow, as if I was suffering as Dís suffered, but still had that little hand there to anchor me in joy, whatever small joy remained. But still, you kill me with this sadness. Now I'm just thinking of No Sacrifice and YEAH I'M DONE *dies*
Marigold Faucet chapter 4 . 9/27/2015
I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.

YOU COULDN'T HAVE WRITTEN HIM LIVING!? JUST THIS ONCE*!? AND JUST EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS CHAPTER MAKES ME WANT TO PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE**!

VIVE LE JOLI!

Really sad, really lovely imagery though.

(I hate you.)

*I know you've written him living before, but for dramatic purposes I've chosen to ignore that fact.
**Not really, because you'd hit back and I don't really like pain. If I hit you, it'd be a hit and run with my fists - not a car.
Marigold Faucet chapter 3 . 9/27/2015
NO-ri is what Nori should've been called. Just shut your mouth. I was a bit iffy about this chapter at the beginning, but I didn't let that stop me and I hate you.

You hit me in the God damn feels! How dare you bring Ori into this!? (Pretend I'm Dori). Then ugh, Kili gives him hugs and please just stab me in the eyeballs damn it.
Meysun chapter 4 . 9/14/2015
Well... I did indeed not expect that in your Dwarflings stories, but as usual it was very well written, carefully thought out, perfectly fitting your universe - and I admire you so much for that.
Dis' grief and sadness is probably something that tears me apart most in all of your writing. Don't misunderstand me, I love absolutely *everything* and I definitely enjoy reading your Dwalin who's always warming me up no matter what happens - but Dis, this reminds me so much of 'No Sacrifice' that reading aches.
Oh you also used ice and fire for her... I just love that symbolism.
I was hit by the paragraph where you explain it is Dis' first burial. It is something that I thought about too, dealing with Thorin's, because I was thinking he would actually be the first buried King since the Dragon came, and for all the Dwarves still living (Thror, and Thrain... they never got a tomb).
I think what saddens me most in this, is that she will go through so much worse. She will lose them all, and not even be there for the burial - this is just so painful, unjust and sad... Little Fili won't be able to keep his promise, and I just found it so heartbreaking that Dis already sensed it somehow, and still did not discard his ardour.
I remember telling something like that to my Mum when my grandfather died - I was only five, and I kept telling her I was sure he was all right, that he was in the sky smiling for her, I remember running endless times to the bathroom to fetch her wet handkerchiefs I just placed on her neck because her eczema got so much worse with all this sadness... Somehow even though these are quite grand words that do not seem quite believable in a story, the "I'll make sure that you never have to cry like this again" is something I can very much rely to. Your world crumbles when your mother cries as a child (and even afterwards). So you are willing to do anything to make it better.
You didn't say how Joli died... it stays ambiguous and I like that. It doesn't matter how and where you die, because the grief for those remaining is the same.
I also really loved the detail of the burial ceremony, the Khuzdul words - I just was surprised that Joli's inner name was spoken aloud. Somehow I understand it, but my "private" part thinks some things should be reserved for the intimacy of family...
Oh the dagger - you won't believe me. I had some idea so close to that in my fic... Now I'm not sure I'll write it, you'd probably think it would just be a lame copy and I don't want that :).
Thorin's words sounding hollow - oh that's something I already thought in some funerals... I bet they also sound hollow to him, I can just imagine him performing that and also thinking of all his dead, thinking where's the point in these empty words, yet I still have to say them...
But ah - in the end it is Thorin who calls Fili a son of Joli. Knowing your headcanon of his troubled relationship with Dis and the fact he wasn't so happy of her marrying him, I though this a very beautiful gesture. Probably a step towards Dis already, and a way to tell Fili he'll always be there for him, but that he will never deny Joli his rightful place nor seek to replace him.
A very beautiful text - I like everything you write, even when it is sad like this and tugging somewhere under my left ribs and aching. Life also has its heartbreaking moments, and Joli is so important yet never mentioned in any annals - I think it beautiful you wrote about this, because he deserves it :).

You just can't seem to do cute and fluffy but your angst is some of the best I have ever read. My advice is to stay with what your good at and this was very good. I must say I loved the first two chapters of this collection of one shots and they were much cuter and closer to fluffy. Still it would sadden us all if you changed your style one bit so keep on writing and never feel ashamed of any of it . Iit is all a gift to those like myself who could never be as wonderful with the written word as you are.
Shiningheart of ThunderClan chapter 4 . 9/13/2015
-sniffles and wipes away tears- I don't hate you, but I also don't necessarily like you right now. Too much sadness.
The Fangirl's New Groove chapter 4 . 9/13/2015
Undeniably it was super sad, but it was beyond adorable, too. I found Kili's slight uninterest realistic, many kids fail to comprehend the importance of such ceremonies, they get bored, restless. I liked that Fili was there for Dis. I picture it like that, not only in sad situations. For example, I bet Fili promised Dis he would take care of Kili when they left for Erebor.

Hope you're doing great!

The amount of cuteness in this fic is adorable. I love little Fili and Kili! And who could resist a little kid's smile? Love your stories!

Have a great day,
Sammy
sorrellkaren chapter 3 . 9/11/2015
Ah cute Kili! I love little dwarflings. The thought of a tiny little Kili hugging a grown up Nori is just so adorable I can't take it. A sad story made better by the littlest Durin.
