You don't have to pair then at all, you can have the story run its course and then determine th best match much later in the story. Or you can leave it as a surprise. I'm afraid it will come off as forced if you declare the pairing before there was any flags raised, so to speak

Can’t help but noticed you updated your story not too long ago. I’ve read it in the past and have noticed improvements, but the story still has a bit of errors.
