Yeah, Pettigrew should really have realized that a rat is a fantastic form for espionage. It's pretty good evidence that he couldn't have made it into Slytherin or Ravenclaw; ironically for the usual characterization of Hufflepuff as the "house of leftovers", he's a good case of going into Gryffindor because he couldn't cut it in any of the others. (Hufflepuff is obviously ruled out by his lack of loyalty.)

This story has been hit or miss for me. But this chapter was an absolute hit, I always love the Luna and Hermione dynamic, something about it has always put a smile on my face.

I think using a snake would have made more sense, as it could have related to the Basilisk hiding around the previous year and thus a more likely paranoiac delusion, its not like she had really dealt all that much with Dragons or seen a proper Dragon at that point, a breakdown involved a Dradon would have made more sense after the first Tri-Wizard Trial in the 4th year, where she would have actually witnessed the real deal.
