I like the voice you gave to 12. It feels very him. The reference to Clara's echoes was a nice touch.

Just reading this made me so happy. Nine was my first doctor too, and my far my favourite. In all the other seasons, even when there's just the tiniest reference to him, it makes me feel so much better. Thanks for writing this - I loved it.

This was fantastic! Writing for Twelve when you're used to Nine and/or Ten is very difficult, but you did well.

I like the idea but I didn't like switching over the significance of "run" at Henrik's to Clara.

This is fantastic! I guess I'm a bad Whovian for not realizing it was the anniversary, but then again I had no idea what Doctor Who was until about a year ago. I absolutely fell for Nine from the get-go and I think he will always be my favorite. However, like you, I think Twelve is working his way up in my book.

I love how you portrayed Twelve's reflections of his Ninth self, I think that was a very good summation of the two incarnations. I also really like how your Twelve feels he could confidently interact with his previous self without creating a paradox, but won't risk his meeting with Rose. Somehow I have this half-formed thought that there is a great juxtaposition between Twelve's unwillingness to risk the paradox now and Nine's risk in 1987 and how both of those decisions centered around Rose. Thats nothing but rambling, but I suppose my point is you've given me food for thought!

"The Doctor grinned like he hadn't done since his days in leather." is probably my favorite line. I do miss Nine's rather manic smile, and I also think one of the reasons I probably like Eccleston and Capaldi so much is that I find there is something a bit more convincingly alien about the way they portrayed the Doctor's emotions. I'm not really sure how to explain my thought there, but I think both actors have great smiles that can be completely sincere and still peculiar and not quite familiar.

Also, I really love how you've celebrated the anniversary of the re-launch with the two Doctors not featured in the 50th. That is immensely satisfying.

What a wonderful anniversary fic! I love that you used Capaldi's Doctor and Clara for it, landing them on the 4th of March 2005 of all days.

For us Whovians it seems curious that he wouldn't recognise the store even if there was this feeling of familiarity tugging at his mind. But if you really think about it - it is perfectly reasonable for him to miss the obvious. It's been centuries for him and he didn't plan for this date at all. There was no way he could have expeced to end up in Henrik's on a day in Rose's time. When he realises where and when he is though - that was marvellous and really him. But of course she would be the assistant helping Clara with her shoes. Oh, and that moment he comes face to face with her: that was very true to his current character but also such a great reminder of who he has been before. It is true, his feelings have changed but that doesn't mean he ever forgot. And Capaldi's Doctor is indeed closer to CE's than to any other incarnation. Like you pointed it out so well both of them carry a certain guilt as their burden and it was a great move to have him be aware of this similarity.
Capaldi himself has said it once or twice that CE's Doctor affected him greatly and that also shines through on this wonderful little story. And talking about different incarnations: I congratulate you on avoiding to label them with numbers. I have seen quite a number of authors do that and must confess it bothers me because I can't really picture the Doctor or any Time Lord for that matter to think along such lines. In certain cirumstances, particularly if asked by a companion, he might do a count but otherwise I think he'd refer to his former selves in exactly the manner you showed here.

The entire little encounter between present and past was a brilliant homage to the re-launch and I liked the reference to Ten and his sandshoes. My favourite line would have to be the following though:

"But there was one thing that set this leather-clad Doctor apart from himself, one essential piece of the puzzle that was so precious that he dare not even take a breath if there was a possibility it would alter the timeline."

This one sentence says so much, most of all it conveys just how important this time with Rose - despite the heartbreak it brought him in the end - has been for the Doctor. He and she rescued one another back then, and he wouldn't miss any of it.

Thank you for this great little piece which has both my favourite incarnations (with CE's Doctor winning by a hair's breadth) in it!
