Plus, Kaito is very, very proud of his "Kuroba" name. Shinichi is proud to be a Kudo too, I'm sure, but being a Kuroba has intensified meaning for Kaito, isn't it so?

As for your AN at the end of the story, I think the same. Kudo Kaito just sounds somewhat weird. Instead, Kuroba Shinichi sounds much better.

Generally in most cultures it's predominant that the bride takes the groom's name because she's "marrying into the family". Occasionally, the groom may have no family name, or simply choose to take his bride's family name instead for whatever reason, possibly because he is estranged from his own named family and happily welcomed into hers, or occasionally simply because he doesn't mind it and thinks their names sound better that way, or likes it better. Sometimes in aristocratic groups and cultures with strict hierarchies, it will depend on which family is of higher standing, and if one is a sole heir to a family name or one of very few versus their spouse's many. Like when there are Titles involved- marrying the sole heiress who becomes Lady XYZ would in theory make you Lord XYZ, or Consort XYZ depending on the rules involved in the particular instance, so you take her family name. Or the last of a family line in a culture that takes such things quite seriously would want it passed down- that's why when China decreed that each family could only have one child nearly everyone wanted their's to be a boy, so he could carry on the family name where a girl could not (in their culture). Increasingly in many modern cultures, people who have established themselves at least somewhat in their fields will choose to keep their names the same and be differently-named from their spouse, or incorporate hyphens, in order to lessen confusion like needing new business cards and to better maintain their reputation-building.
Eri might have kept her maiden name because her initial reputation as a Lawyer was attached to it, and also to lessen people connecting her to her husband, an officer, automatically while working. She could have also changed back to her maiden name after divorcing Kogoro, or as a mark that the separation was really serious even if they didn't file the papers for some reason. (Or, one day she could have remarried, but if she had Ran wouldn't be so set on getting them back together.)
Kaito and Shinichi as you wrote them probably /would/ choose solely on what makes either of their noses scrunch up because it sounds weird. And only because someone reminded them that people usually do change at least one new spouse's name in the process of getting married. :) It also gets Shinichi further from his father's shadow, and his scary crazy mother. XD

I seriously think this gave me a cavity. It totally did but I don't care because it was so adorable. The scene switching wasn't weird at all and the hakuba Kaito engaged thing was hilarious, even if we didn't get to see Shinichis reaction to it, but oh well. Another happy ending :D

I was just smiling the whole way through that! I loved it so much! How they proposed and how Ran helped them... XD I love the descriptions of her and EVERYTHING like seriously it was hilarious! Especially when Shinichi tried on the suits XD the colours were just Hahahahaha I really like his they cuddled and OMG when Shinichi said about having no doubts to Ran. T_T it was so real and genuine and beautiful. I want to cry because I'm so happy! I just giggled so many times through it XD I'm in car right now I literally burst into laughter so many times. They're used to my random spurts of insanity so it's cool ;) Hakuba is hilarious! I loved how Kaito acted when he saw Shinichi and then the ring's engraving. KYAAAAAH UERUVFJSKSJEHEIQKQVDUFIRBWGQJOEK I just loved it! My heart was being clenched but at the same time I felt so free! The last heist... Imagine if like loads of years later they find their corpses and figure out that actually a detective and a thief had a whirlwind romance. I loved all the kisses and how they just didn't care about the wolf whistles also the crinkle of the hair gel was SO CUTE!
