Pride-of-Slytherin2 chapter 1 . 3/28/2015 I really liked this. The pacing was good and the POV switches helped keep the story fast and gripping the whole way through. I did find Padma’s acceptance of Lavender’s switch a bit too easy though; wouldn’t she forever wonder if Lavender was kissing her but wishing she was kissing Parvati? |
Ralinde chapter 1 . 3/27/2015 Great that you managed to structure this story like a tennismatch, switching povs constantly. Normally, I'm not a big of stories where that happens, but here it matched with the contents. It is interesting to see this take on what is a rather complex love-triangle. I like that Padma dressed up and decided to finally step up and confess her feelings to Lavender. I did feel though that Lavender was /very/ quick with her rebounding, and to me it kind of seemed like she was only kissing Padma because she ressembled Parvati (probably not what you intended but that's how it came across). |
NeonDomino chapter 1 . 3/26/2015 This was really well written. I love reading about Lavender - she usually gets painted as the bad person, and I love stories that focus on her. I liked that the Patil sisters were competitive, I just always thought that about them. They are in different houses, and that could be because that way they could compete. It was interesting having them play a sport that wasn't Quidditch and I like the confusion that Parvati went through. I think her reaction was very realistic when Lavender kissed her. I like that Padma didn't resent Lavender for kissing her sister, instead she looked after her and let Lavender realise her feelings on her own. |
alyssialui chapter 1 . 3/21/2015 This was a good read. I like that you included the Patils playing a Muggle sport because it just seems like magic folk are only interested in Qudiditch. It must have been tough for Lavender being rejected like that but as she realized in retrospect, there was someone else that could love her. You did a good job with this, and though the PoVs switched a lot, the switches were smooth. |
Safari chapter 1 . 3/18/2015 W O W. From the get-go, I was so impressed by your characterisation of Lavender. She is vapid and materialistic and self-centered. At the same time, she's observant and ambitious. She knows what she wants and she goes for it. I appreciate that you do not romanticize her flaws and instead give her a depth that wasn't shown in the canon books. Interesting that you chose a tennis match to portray the twins competing for Lavender's attention and, eventually, her affection. While I wasn't a huge fan of the pov shifts, it added stylistic dimension to your piece because it was a visual and narration embodiment of the tennis match in the quick way the pov changed from one person to another, the same way the tennis ball bounces back and forth on the court. I don't know if I'm personally okay with Lavender rebounding from Parvarti to Padma. It seems awkward that she would be fixated on one twin and when that doesn't pan out the way she wants it to she moves onto the second twin. Kind of why I'm kind of iffy on the Angelina/George ship after reading about Angelina/Fred in the books, you know what I mean? xoxo wouldtheywriteasongforyou |
Sociially-Diisoriiented chapter 1 . 3/12/2015 Interesting story. I've never read many fics with Lavender, but I really liked the first paragraph. I think you did a good job of establishing Lavender's personality, which I think goes well with the canon impression I had of her. That being said, I think that the events following the tennis match moved really quickly. I liked the confrontation between Pavarti and Lavender - poor Pavarti must have been very shocked to suddenly have been kissed by her best friend - but Lavender sure bounced back from that one quickly! I don't know if this was your intention, but by the end, my impression of Lavender was that she actually doesn't know her own mind. It seems like she's likely to fall for anyone she thinks looks at her in an interested way. I'm not saying that's a bad thing - if anything, it adds complexity to the character - but she does strike me as someone insecure who hides her insecurity by appearing extroverted. With that said, I get the impression that Lavender and Padma's budding relationship will most likely be short-lived. |
Fire The Canon chapter 1 . 3/12/2015 I'm kind of glad this ended with PadmaLavender, because Padma and ships is my forte. All the ships and Padma... I really liked the way you interpreted the prompts here, and the description of the tennis match. As an avid and obsessive watcher of tennis, I enjoyed the commentator style haha. That was interesting. I suspect Padma might be a rebound for Lavender for now, as moving on that quickly... hmmm. But a rebound is a rebound. It might become something more eventually. Well done. |
