Reviews for Summer Showers
GiGi Babineaux chapter 1 . 3/9/2017
That was so sad. It brought tears to my eyes. A very sweet story.
Mirran chapter 1 . 3/22/2016
This is a wonderful story. And it made me cry... There is no higher compliment for a story than' It made me cry.' I wish it hadn't rained-It was perfect until it rained. Poor, poor Frodo. Elanor seems lovely.
Guest chapter 1 . 5/8/2015
I cried! So beautiful! Have you written anything else?
Guest chapter 1 . 4/20/2015
This was so sad and felt so right. Very well done.
CrackinAndProudOfIt chapter 1 . 2/28/2015
This is wonderful! I absolutely love this take on Frodo after the Quest: you do such an excellent job of depicting his deep sadness, regret, and hopelessness. He is so hard on himself, and the way you write it is very compelling.

I loved the opening passage with his reflections on writing down each event in his journey, and bringing the issue of finishing the book back around at the end of the story works brilliantly. Frodo's words to Elanor and reflections on her, Sam, Rosie, and himself were so insightful, and very much in-character.

Seeing the relationships I'd just seen him thinking about come into play when he returns to Bag End really drove home Frodo's depressed state of mind. You do a great job of expressing his sadness to leave Sam and the Shire in balance with his hope for healing in the Undying Lands. I love all the complexity here, and the emotions are flawless.

This passage brought tears to my eyes:

"He'd go with me, if I asked. He would sail away, and you wouldn't see him again. Maybe he would guide a star through the sky like Ëarendil, and you, poor fatherless child, would grow wise like Elrond. Sorrow makes wisdom, Elanor. Never ask to be wise."

Excellent work.

Poor Frodo.

Oh, and Rosie such a bitch :D
mornnenn chapter 1 . 2/20/2015
*sobs quietly in the corner*

This was so beautiful. So heartbreakingly beautiful.

I was especially touched by the line: 'Maybe he would guide a star through the sky like Eärendil, and you, poor fatherless child, would grow wise like Elrond. Sorrow makes wisdom, Elanor. Never ask to be wise.'

I was also moved by Frodo's thoughts about how he keeps imagining killing people.

"But everything else of me is broken, so that's all fine and fair." That was so beautifully written.

And he wanted to drown in rainwater...

It was also nice to see a story that was taking place while Frodo was trying to write the Red Book. I liked how it tied in with how The Lord of the Rings is written - Frodo never does finish it, and his thoughts fade away to be replaced by Sam's.
