I generally enjoy well-done retellings of fairy tales, so I knew I would like this. I love how you evoke the gothic romance of the Beauty and the Beast mythology. I especially liked the line about a beast not just being an animal but "all manner of things" and how you establish his torment over his misshapenness. You do a good job working with the disney characterizations while shifting things around sightly. Gaston seems truly beastly so far and Belle has all of her spirit and pluck. What I really love about this is that Disney took the fairy tale and turned it into an animated movie, and now it's like you're turning it back into a literary tale. Very cool. :D

Don't leave me hanging like that! It's hard to find fics that are and are interesting and well written. Keep going! It would be a shame for it to be left unfinished. I like how you described the inhabitants of the castle. Their hollow eyes, bodies twisted into the tools of their former lives. It's different, dark...curious. More please! :-)

The servants don't want Belle to see them, I don't think Ive ever read a story with idea which is an interesting one. Though I think Belle will get lonely after awhile.
