Reviews for Fire and Ice
Boringnameperson chapter 26 . 6/19
Hi. It's the same person. I'm super clumsy and I accidentally posted the review before i was done writing it. Sorry! Ok. So, I'll continue from where I left off.

But I am SO glad I decided to. Yes, I fell in love with it, and yes, I'm dying for more, but I'm so glad for the incredible TWENTY-SIX chapters you've already written. Wow. If that's not dedication, I don't know what is. This fic has cheered me up during these hard times. Thank you for being so awesome. I totally get that you have a life and stuff. I don't write ANYTHING! The fact that you've written so many stories to share with the community is so amazing. (Hmmm... I think I need to come up with some new adjectives...) I'm pretty sure the only thing I don't like about this story is how mean you are to yourself! You are SUCH an AMAZING writer. Don't be so hard on yourself. (And you write Elsa super well. I love the caring older sister stuff. I'd love to see some more if possible.) You are a wonderful person, so STOP! (I can't really talk though. I'm the same way.) You have brought joy to so many people! Look at all your reviewers! This is sounding like a pep talk. I'll try to do some actual helpful feedback now. First of all, your grammar is PERFECT. Your paragraphing is so good, which isn't often true. (That includes me. Mine is terrible.) You're dialogue is also fantastic. This is so important to me, because I'm a total grammar nerd. No matter how hard I try, I just can't read fics with grammar issues. So thank you. (And that's not meant to be hurtful to anyone who has trouble with grammar. You should try finding a beta! They can help you transform your incredible ideas into beautiful fics with great writing. Thank you betas!) So, yes. Thank you for that. And your description is so good! I can totally picture what's going on. And your character development! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I'm just melting at all of the fluffy moments. And the slightly angsty parts where they comfort each other! Okay. I need to calm down. But your story is so AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG! ANYWAY. You're doing such a fanatastic job,and I can't wait for an update. Thank you for sticking with it! In the meantime, I look forward to reading all of your other fics! I don't know if you're looking to pursue writing professionally, but if you are, GO FOR IT! You're totally awesome. And by the way, I honestly wasn't expecting this to be this awesome. I don't know anything about hockey, and I don't watch it or anything. But oh my gosh. This was just so superb. If I ever see a game randomly, I'll be cheering for the Bruins. :) Thank you again for sharing your incredible talent with this community. Excuse me while I go re-read this about a thousand times.

Stay awesome,
Boringnameperson

Hi.

OH. MY. GOSH This is so AMAZING! I can't even put into words how much I love this fic. You're writing is incredible, and you're story is so beautifully crafted. I'm always super apprehensive about reading unfinished stories because i don't want to fall in love with them and then have the author never finish them. But I am

Guest chapter 12 . 3/3
I am enjoying this story, but I believe that if you are going to write about self-injury, you should probably be better informed.

It’s unrealistic and even irresponsible to portray Anna as able to stop self harming just because she decides to (because of Kristoff’s gesture). There probably are people who quit cold turkey, and who quit for a variety of reasons, but all lot of people, maybe even most, who have had a habit of self harm (not those who experimented with it or did it once or twice) take time to quit and may relapse. It’s not as simple as just deciding to quit. You can decide to quit and work toward quitting, but there will be obstacles. Self- injury is a coping mechanism, and although it’s an unhealthy one, it is effective in the moment. People who are able to stop self injuring have to find other coping mechanisms to get through emotionally taxing times. This takes practice, especially as most healthy coping mechanisms do not offer the instantaneous relief that self injury does (hence, why they turned to self injury as a coping mechanism in the first place). In addition, self injury can produce an emotional high (just as drugs do, though neurotransmitters and mechanisms involved are different) due to endorphins released that can become addicting.

Also, just because Anna isn’t in an emotionally abusive relationship with Hans anymore doesn’t mean she can just drop the habit. Emotional abuse changes your self perception (which I feel you’ve done a good job depicting), so the pain continues after the abuse and the person needs a way to deal with that pain. Unless they address their self injury, it’s unlikely they would immediately be able to stop just because they left an abusive situation, especially if they have a negative perception of themselves (as Anna does at times).

Additionally, I don’t necessarily find it unrealistic that Kristoff asked Anna to stop cutting (many people who don’t understand or haven’t experienced self injury may ask this of someone they care about who is hurting themselves), but I do find Anna’s response unrealistic. Likely, she has been asked to stop by other people who care about her - her parents, Elsa, etc. No matter how much you love the person making the request, and how much you don’t wish to hurt them, this often isn’t enough for the self-injurer to suddenly stop. They may become motivated to work towards quitting and finding other outlets for emotional pain, but this generally doesn’t happen instantly. I can forgive Kristoff for making the request because he genuinely cares about Anna and doesn’t want her hurt in any way. However this is not a position you want to put a person who is self injuring in, especially asking for a promise to quit. This puts a lot of pressure on them and may only make them feel worse about themselves if they’re unable to keep their promise. Kristoff could support Anna by letting her know he cares (which he did), offering to let her talk or vent if she ever needs it (which he also did), and basically offering support that isn’t conditional on the behavior stopping.

I know that you probably didn’t mean to misrepresent self-injury and I believe your intentions are good. However, self-injury is already stigmatized by society and not well understood by the average person. Therefore, your depiction of a subject such as this matters and it’s important to be well-informed :) That said, I am enjoying the story and believe that many aspects of Anna’s struggles are portrayed very accurately.
