I don't remember if I ever read this before, all the way back in 2002, but I probably did. What's weird is that your author's note at the end of this chapter triggered a WHOLE lot of flashbacks back to that time period, aka around the time when I was in middle school. "Rhaithe" seems familiar, although I don't recall what/who it is exactly.

But zhai'helleva! OMG! I haven't thought of the Mercedes Lackey series in years, although back around 2002-2004, they were all I could think about and I read dozens of her books. It's a big like Yu-Gi-Oh! itself...I fell out of the fandom (or grew up lol) a long time ago, but I was browsing my old favorited stories/author and one thing lead to another, until I found this on Psychological Dependence. Reading it is like rediscovering my geeky, Kaiba-and-Yami-obsessed 13 year old self :P
