I would prefer to have this story done slowly with all the details then quickly with only the main points and not a lot of detail. Option 1 sounds better to me personally. Go at your own pace though, just the fact you still are doing the story is nice. Just don't rush. Do what you think is right for the story.

Another option is that you could write a series of books, each covering a small span of Iroh's life. That might be interesting. I've loved the pace of your story so far, but I can understand as a writer how frustrating and time consuming it can be, and doing the entire rest of Iroh's years will be hard. Out of the two options you gave, I would like to see the story progress naturally as you intended to write it, but I get that that'll be challenging, so maybe just use the time skips to your advantage, but don't rush the story. I'd still like to see a natural progression, as this story is very interesting and it'd be a shame to just dump the information all at once to get it over with.
