I've seen quite a few fics of complications during Hiccup's birth, but this is the first time I read about Toothless being such a late hatcher. This is actually quite a refreshing fic to read! Both with the least chance of survival, both one day the strongest of them all!

This is such a great dichotomy! The circumstances surrounding their hatching/birth, are at once opposite, and yet so similar. It makes sense that a late egg would be seen in the same light as an early birth. Toothless grows up with an absent father, Hiccup without a mother. Both defying the expectations surrounding them.

New headcanon alert! Toothless was just waiting for Hiccup to be ready for them to be born together :) And when he couldn't wait any longer, it was time for Hiccup, too.
