This was absolutely amazing. The vignette form, the pace of the short chapters (which perfectly mimics the frenetic energy of the Inquisition), the characterization of both protagonists - everything. I especially enjoyed how the main romance was played around and through the game's plotline, but as counterpoint, rather than plodding alongside. Spectacular bit of writing here. Enjoyed it so very much.

Oh I just love this story! I started reading it two days ago and I fell in love! They are my favorite NPC pairing in all of Thedas, and this is the best story of them ever written, mind you there are only a few but the sentiment remains. Awesome work :)

I was never a Krem x Harding fan but you've slowly managed to entrance me with each passing chapter, especially how easily digestible they are, and yet leaving such a lingering impact. Your writing style, choice of words, imagery, the subject, all of it is so amazing and wonderful. Thank you for such a great story, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a hard time finishing it because I just didn't want it to end! I would have never thought of pairing Harding and Krem. Now when I play the game I can't look at them the same way! So I was holding my breath when Krem told her about Bull's orders, and I almost started crying...and then he said he wasn't going! What relief! While I'm sure it was a difficult decision, I like that Bull respects it and says they'll always have a place. Bull gets it. I like that. And again, I'm so relieved.

Playing with language worked really well in this chapter. It did conjure up the sense of battle, the image of things happening in flashes and fleeting glimpses, and also calls to mind your very summary of this story: a tale told in glimpses. The style puts me right in the thick of things where I'm not seeing what's happening so much as feeling the emotion of it. I liked it.

I love how in this case Bull actually defers to Harding and allows her to direct the Chargers. It's simple, but it shows utmost respect for what she does and how she does it, and I can tell he's not doing it just because she and Krem are together. A lot of good tension in this chapter, and while I don't want the story to end, I'm looking forward to seeing how things pan out for Krem and Harding.

Just as I was thinking "What a nice, lighthearted chapter!" they go and get serious. Ah well, it's one of the things I love best about how you write this pairing. They appreciate and enjoy the levity of some moments, but they don't shy away from the important topics. And I think seeing how they both have different ideas of how "after" will play out, and this is the first time they're realizing it, makes the disagreement, and then the new conflict at the end of the chapter so moving.

There's a really nice balance in this chapter between what's won and what's paid, and I like that you don't gloss over the fact that they're at war and there will always be a cost to be paid. I also like that they never take for granted the fact that they'll come back alive, and thus appreciate these quiet, still moments with one another in the aftermath.
