I'm glad you are continuing the story (its really awesome) but I think you posted chapter five again, when I click for chapter six it's the same as what was on chapter five.

It was beautiful. You managed to capture Thranduil's character marvelously, and he's a difficult one to portray correctly. I wish more chapters would come! Or perhaps another Thranduil story? I'd love to read more!

oh, I hoped for more chapters, but tis was a very good fic and a whole, round story, that go to favorites. I too like Thranduil very and think, that he is a great elvenking :)

Very good ending - and much better than Legolas being sent off to search for 'Strider', who at the time would have been a child living in Imladris and known as Estel. Poor Legolas would have been running in circles looking for someone who didn't exist.

Strictly speaking, it was Bard who gave the necklace of Girion to Thranduil, in thanks for the help the elves gave to Dale, and it was Bilbo who presented the king with a necklace of mithril and pearls. I doubt that the dwarves of Erebor would have had the Nauglamir, as that was held by King Dior and then passed on to his daughter, Elwing. It is possible that the necklace was broken up as she only kept the Silmaril when she escaped the kinslayers. The gems of Lasgalen don't actually exist in canon, but I've read that they are white gems mined by the elves from the river beds in Eryn Galen and that the dwarves were commissioned by Thranduil to make them into a necklace for his wife, but that Thror reneged on the agreement and wanted to keep the finished necklace for himself because it was so beautiful.

Good chapter. I agree with your comments about Tauriel. She served no real purpose in the film. I can't help feeling that if Tolkien had created her, rather than her being a figment of PJ's imagination, Tauriel would have been far more interesting than merely being infatuated with a dwarf. As it is, her character added nothing of any value to the story - which after all, was about Bilbo and the dwarves, not about a silly (and unlikely) and unnecessary romance between an elf and a dwarf. It would have been more realistic if Tauriel's romance had been with Bard.

I like the different ending you have given that little 'incident' between Tauriel and Thranduil. It is ironic that she accuses Thranduil of self-interest and arrogance, since Tauriel herself is equally guilty of that. There is nothing pure about Tauriel's motives - she was only thinking about herself. She certainly wasn't concerned about Legolas's safety and well-being when she talked him into following her. However, it does make me wonder about Legolas, that it he should be so easily talked into doubting the father who loves him and who has always been a good king to his people. It was quite right that Legolas should place himself in front of the arrow that was pointed at his father - it was his duty as both a son and crown prince to protect his father and king. I am surprised that Tauriel was allowed to just walk away though. She had just committed treason - she should have been arrested by the guards and hauled back to the Greenwood to face justice.

I've just come across this story, and I can say I like it. It is an interesting take, and it does justice to the characters. I especially liked how you portrayed Thranduil, since he's my favorite.
