Reviews for Vigilantes (Sequel to Masquerade)
Mitana chapter 12 . 6/7/2015
I'm in the same camp as Frank (the last reviewer). I really enjoyed the first two stories. I felt this one really moved away from Forever and more into some other-worldly space that was a bit confusing. I consider myself to be pretty intelligent and rather practiced at figuring out what isn't said (I'm a teacher and I read stories all the time where an idea is clear in the writer's mind but not necessarily in the reader's). I think you have a story and all the characters clearly planned in your head, but as we, the readers, do not know everything you do about these characters, it tended to get a bit confusing. Since your idea is not a simplistic black and white/good vs. evil storyline, I got a bit lost as far as whose "side" everyone is on. And what are these other characters? They seem to be maybe vampires...? (Clarise was smoking in the sun, Dijon spit blood, they fly.) But then, maybe they are something completely different.

I would still like to read some more in this series. I do like that Henry has Jo now and doesn't have to worry about outliving everyone he loves. And that must be a weight off Abe's shoulders as well. Speaking of Abe, I think we need more of him! And more of Henry and Jo, too. They have a lot to get through and these cases just keep getting in the way!

Anyway, keep going with this, please. I look forward to it.
FDWojo chapter 12 . 3/30/2015
Hi there. I just wanted to drop a line about your FOREVER trilogy. I wanted to say that I really liked AMBUSH and MASQUERADE. They both kept a good story going, and I *LOVE* the fact that Henry "turned" Jo. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say: "Tell her, Henry! Tell Her!). This was a good option for the story to go. Of course, one wonders if they could do that in the TV show, but since we don't even know how he's immortal, it's a crap shoot.

However, I must say that I was less thrilled with VIGALANTES. In the first two, it was Just Henry,Jo, and Adam in the "club". I thought things were progressing nicely. But in their third installment, you had all these other weird characters with unexplained powers, and also whether they were of human stock or not, that it lost it's FOREVER flavor. Sure Henry and Jo were there, but with all the other weirdos, they almost felt like and add-on, despite Henry knowing some of them.

Based on the last line of this one, I'm looking forward to the next installment(s?) of the story. I hope you can get back to "normal" FOREVER stories for that.

If you'd like me to go (briefly) a bit deeper into my disatisfaction with the others, we know that Adam seems to be like Henry. No special abilities AT ALL other than immortality. However, all those other characters, there was too much uncertainty over what powers they had, who they were willing to hurt and who they would hold off on. Don't get me wrong, I'm quite sure that Henry and Adam (and in your stories, Jo) are not the only ones of their kind. But I would rather keep it to *normal* immortals, and not whatever the other people were.

And yes, mine is just one, small voice here in the wilderness. I don't expect that the writers are my slaves or anything. I just wanted thrilled with all the strange, non-FOREVER stuff that happened in VIGILANTES.

Otherwise, keep up the good work!

Frank

Epilogue? Or no? ;) Great update. Jo got Clarise's seal of approval. That's really good. :P You know, I was thinking Dijon may be immortal too, but he thinks himself above all the mortals whereas Henry considers himself equal. That's one of the many huge differences between them. Love how Abe went to go get some coffee. He's learned from their last meeting...

Great job. :D

You were right. That was quite an argument. Quite a bit of supernatural element to this series. Loved Lucas' comment there at the end about the smell. He has no clue what just happened. :P

One thing though... does Reece know about Henry? Or something about Henry? He mentioned something from the 1970s and remembering what happened even though it was thirty years previous. Or does Reece just think Henry saw it as a little boy? That part confused me a bit.

Good update. There's quite a lot of original characters and events happening in this story. You keep them straight pretty well. Nice job. Post more when you can. :)

Looks like things are being wrapped up. One more chapter left? Or was this the end? Henry's so sweet to get flowers for Jo. Only Henry. ;) :P I have a feeling they can trust these guys to keep the immortality secret a secret. Nice job. :D

My first thought when he came into the shop was 'Don't you dare touch Abe.' I have to say I really loved the scene between Hanson and Henry. We don't get enough scenes between just the two of them on the show. :) I understand why Jo wants to bring the actual killer to justice, but I have to agree with Henry... in this instance, it's best that they stretch the truth a little. Sort of like what happened on the most recent episode with Henry pretending to not have a theory about Julian's murder because it was Adam.

Hopefully Jo will get all the answers she needs. I am curious to see how Jo got dressed and made it back to the shop without any trouble. ;) Great update. Post more whenever you can. :)

Interesting. I do love that you started the story with a journal entry of Henry's. The book that he's talking about sounds like the book that's on Sleepy Hollow right now. There's quite a lot happening in this story and it's a little hard to keep everybody straight.

Are these other immortals original characters of yours? Or from someplace else? The flow of the flashbacks to the present are good, just like the show. But again, there's so much going on very quickly. It is hard to keep everything straight. I do get who killed who and everything and how they seem to travel (supernaturally) and how Henry met them in the past, but it can get a bit confusing here and there.

The girl that was covering for Jo 'going for a swim' - she's mortal? But she knows about immortals? And the FBI agents? They're mortal or they track supernatural things? Quite a lot of events happening all at once. I'm curious to see Henry get Jo from the River and how they'll solve this case. Seems like it'll be wrapped up soon, no? Post more when you can. :)
