I know I’m several years late but I need to give a review for this story, I’ve binged it over three days!
First off it’s really refreshing to see a fic that doesn’t include Sam and Tucker as central characters, I feel like it can get kinda boring to see them every time so it’s nice to see a focus on some of the less explored characters. Maddie and Danny’s relationship has always been a favourite of mine and it’s rare to find a good fic centred around them, so I’m glad you chose them for this!
All of the emotion and action in this story seems really real to me (well as real as Danny Phantom can get) and all of the characters thoughts and actions seemed very thought out and like them!
I don’t really know what to say about Vlad, you’ve taken a character that was supposed to be evil in a kids show and made him into a real villain, he’s very well written and his motives still link to his motives in the show!
Absolutely loved this story from start to finish, thank you for writing this 3 And the ending really hit me like a ton of bricks, loved the plot twist!

Firstly, I just want to say how grateful I am that after over 2 year's absence in the Danny Phantom fanfic community, people are still writing, but not just that. This fic was obscenely well written and beautifully fleshed out. All of the characters were true to the show, but you also gave them your own life. I am just thoroughly impressed with this and hopefully we will see more of your work in the future! Thank you for this!

To be honest, when I first started reading this story it was a huge disapointment for me because of how weak Danny was compared to Vlad in terms of influence. Now, after a while I picked it up again and I have to see that it was my biggest mistake ever! The turns and reveals this story takes are amazing and the ending was just as bittersweet as the rest of the story. Truly one of the best stories I have read in a long while

Ps: nice fic, over all enjoied it, just salty about some morals. But you can't please everyone.

Whaaaaaaaaaaat?! This story was sooo good, it was brilliant, it was perfection... Until the end. No no no. Just no. There's everything wrong with that - Danny taking that from her, meddling with her mind yet again AGAINST HER WILL. Leaving himself to deal alone with all this again, for what? So that his mother can sleep better again? They're supposed to be a team, his family's all he's got left and now he's back to hiding from then. And she didn't want it, would he really reach into her mind again when the last time he did still haunted him? I'm sorry I love this story and your amazing writing, I really do, but that ending was an absolutely let-down. It basically nullified the whole experience, they grew through this together and now it basically never happened. God damn but this just not what I wanted or expected. Damn it.

Still didn't nullify my love for your story, just to be clear here, I'm nit trying to offend you. I'm just really upset by that ending and it was so swift, I didn't even see it coming.

This... this was so messed up in so many ways. Still it was a great read! The end left me wanting to yell at Danny haha. Amazing story!

Oh, Danny!

Noooo! I finally got a chance to catch up and reread/finish this and it was amazingly spectacular and I stayed up all night to finish it but WHY?! That ending...that was both brilliant yet torturous. XD And, a question: obviously Danny took Maddie's memory of killing Vlad and that whole night away, but how much more did he erase? Does Maddie still know he's half-ghost, or did he erase the whole entire scenario?

So, saw the alert for this story, and it caught my interest in reading the summary. While I haven't read much DP fanfiction in awhile, I recall well that you never disappoint to turn a compelling and entertaining story. This one certainly didn't disappoint, and successfully delved into more than few deep topics. In the same way I tend to think of Death Note as an interesting discussion on the morality of the death penalty, this ended up being a great discussion of what the function and value of a memory is. Overall, amazing job. I will certainly be keeping an eye for more of your brilliant stories!

First, I want to thank you for finishing this story. It has some ideas that I'll have to think about for awhile.

I was struck by the line about how his friends reacted to the call to check to see if they were alive really was quite telling. It was later confirmed in Danny's conversation with Maddie. It must have been really heartbreaking what he had to do to push them away. In just a few words you imply a great deal.

In the previous chapter, I commented on Maddie's protectiveness and her understanding of what needed to be done. It wasn't without cost. I think I also forgot to add that her martial arts skill are really impressive in that she is able to subdue Vlad when Phantom for all his power is not even if she did have the supernatural help of a ghost of a ghost.

I'm not sure what I think about Danny taking his mother's memories of the events. Although memories are far more mutable than we like to think, in many ways they are the most personal thing we own and of a deep violation and in many ways can be considered our essence. The idea of blocking memories to varying degrees as a form of therapy is something that I've encountered in science fiction before. Considering their unique circumstances, their options for traditional therapy is non-existent. Granted, Danny has done it repeatedly before with no ill effects, but it seems like such a violation I can't help but question it. The previous times it was to save Maddie's life and Maddie seemed to understand and approve when she was told about it. But this time she flat out asks him not to.

What does Jazz and Jack have to say about it? There is an implication that Jazz thinks it is necessary and I understand why for the sake of the story you wouldn't want to have endless pages of discussion going round and round about it but maybe giving her more time would help. It's easy to say that Maddie only did what she had to do to save her family and likely untold numbers of people and that given time she would come to deal with it after all lots of people have had to come to grip with what they have done... and some people don't.

I also have to ask how much does the rest of the family know? Does Jack still know about Phantom?

Speaking of trauma, what about Danny and all that he has been through and even more all that he had been made to do.

Then I come back the the title and the value and costs of these memories.

After all, it is a happy ending. Whether Maddie remembers it or not, she freed Danny (and the rest of them) from Vlad's evil clutches. Danny has hope for the future and even a renewed friendship with Tucker.

*Gasp* That was so intense, I had to take little breaks when reading it.

I'm always impressed with how how portray Maddie. Not only is she very protective of her children so that for her there is no question or moral dilemma about killing Vlad but you show that she is so capable of cool thinking under pressure. Jazz is right that when they work together, not even Vlad is a match for them.

Watching is play out with Vlad having all the cards and anticipating every possibility and having agents under his control to do his bidding. I couldn't help thinking about corruption and about checks and balances that work to limit it. Vlad seems to have a strangle hold on various government agencies yet I wonder how far his reach really is. There has to be some limit or he wouldn't act is a (a least partially) clandestine way. I wonder about what would happen if a video of this leaked out the the press.

Vlad keeps going on and on about how Danny needs to grow up and acknowledge his reality but I can't help thinking of what a wonderful job you have done on aging Danny. The way you write him shows a maturity and depth also a darker side that has been shaped by Vlad trying to manipulate him for years.
