This is actually what happened in the movie (sort of). I think you amongst others had predicted the outcome of what was about to happen. Pretty good chapter you wrote here. I hope there'll be more to come.

It's weird... But the angst didn't get me crying. The fluff did. Or maybe it was the fact that this is so well written, I tricked my brain into believing that this was real, that they are real, and when it ended, and I saw the end of the page, I was hit with the cold, hard truth of reality. But hats ok. Because even if it was only temporary, it still counts.

how about a chapter where the riders decide to prank Hiccup but it ends humiliating them in front of the whole village and Hiccup reveals that he learned overheard them and made a few adjustments to their Prank so they would be the ones getting effected by it and when they are all in shock about what he did he would point out they were going to do the same thing to him and they would all feel guilty

can we have an AU of worst in show were its Hiccup that gets captured after he snaps at the riders for being so immature and once they save they apologize for letting a competition get the better of them and admit he is the best dragon rider because without him none of them would have their Dragons

This was sweet, and i love the idea of Hiccup's child saying Toothless' new first, instead of daddy, or mommy, or Hiccup, or Astrid, or really anyone else. That was funny, sweet, and enjoyable at the same time
I also though, what if their was a one-shot where Hiccup and Astrid's child is trying to be thought words, and they try EVERYTHING, Hiccup, Astrid, Berk, Snotlout, Fishlegs, Book, Dragon, and almost all of the dragons names, until late one night, they're going upstairs exhausted, and the child says Toothless' name as his or her first word, and Hiccup and Astrid or a tiny bit jealous that Toothless somehow got the kid to talk, but Hiccup's happy as long as his child is happy, but Astrid keeps trying to win second place

First, let me just say congratulations on becoming a published author, that is quite exciting and a great achievement :D And I'm so sorry about your grandfather :( It sounds like it wasn't really easy for you to deal with him and his passing didn't help a lot either. I'm still sorry for your loss though.
