It's painful because it sounds so plausible. It was perfect! Congratulations :)

This is really sad but its also really good. Poor Gale- always swallowing his pain and desires back.

The last line is my favourite and it's exactly how I imagine what Gale thinks (and will always think) about Katniss after the end of the rebellion. I'm glad you didn't have him move on, 'kissing another pair of lips' as I think he has too many demons to ever do that agian.

Uhh, you might wanna tag Gale and Katniss on this so people can actually find it and read it. :)

(ok this is just one chapter so I'll start from here)
This was beautifully devastating, but to my surprise, not exactly the kinda devastating I feared - because the elements of rebuilding were shining through, along with he fact that Gale is in a healthy mindset despite everything, and is trying SO HARD to truly make the world a better place. Of course that doesn't take away from their personal tragedy, but provides a better and somehow more bearable framing. It was so wonderfully bittersweet and closure-y and I loved it even tho it hurt so much. A fit companion to the first story, definitely.

(ahh and this line: "—does it hurt?—they always ask, delicate fingers afraid to touch." It was just so poetic and sad and so many wrong kinds of hot. Yeah I'm horrible haha.)

That was heartbreaking! Poor Gale, sometimes I just want to shake Katniss. Beautifully written, thanks for sharing with is!
