Aww, this was really cute! I think in the episode, Er Kang said that Liu Qing went to his place, and he and Yong Qi were both outside searching for Xiao Yan Zi with the guards. A servant then sent a message to Er Kang with news, and he guessed it must've been about Xiao Yan Zi, so he got Yong Qi and went to Hui Bing Lou which was how they ended up there (so you weren't far off! :)).

I thought the novel had a bit extra to the TV show as well, though I haven't read it in a while. But I do remember reading something about Yong Qi hurrying into the room where Xiao Yan Zi was and being sad as he took in her sorry state. I wished the show had more of that there! Especially since we get so little of Xiao Yan Zi/Yong Qi hurt/comfort scenes compared with Zi Wei/Er Kang - which is seriously every other scene! :P

So happy to see new HZGG fic being written, and I love these plot hole ones!

Small correction: Without Her is posted on here :) it's quite far down on my author page so you might have missed it. everything on AO3 is on here.

That said, WH was written years ago so I honestly can't remember what happened either :P I actually had to go back and reread the last bit to get some of this. But wow thank you so much for writing a fanfic of my fanfic it's incredibly flattering to know that a story I wrote on a whim can create this years later.

urgh the hearbreaking thing is YQ's immediate assumption that XYZ doesn't want to come back to him because she was at Hui Bin Lou. It parallels with XYZ's earlier realisation that she threw away all the good things she had.

I love how you added another layer to the scene in the series, showing how YQ goes from being against the whole thing to taking part. at this point,YQ and XYZ do have a lot of issues to work out and you've created a nice bridge here.
