Reviews for A New Life
CMBasher7 chapter 1 . 8/15
I’ll give you credit on the first chapter you used an actual Marvel Character that I had no idea existed (I mean the Beyonder.)
Ruth Agreste chapter 9 . 4/15
Woah, woah woah. You got the Greek gods all WRONG! Thanatos is a minor god and he is Hades servant (sort of). All of the olympians are Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, Apollo, Artemis, Athena, Ares, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Hermes, Dionysus and honorary ones being Hestia and Hades. Also Hypnos is a minor god of sleep. Also ALL of the Greek gods are WAAAAAAYY more powerful than ALL of the Asgardians. Also Hercules does NOT hang with the olympians, he is a very very very minor god who guards a gateway and is Apollo’s half brother because Hercules was originally a demigod but became a god after he died. Also… THE AVENGERS CAN NEVER EVER IN A MILLION WILLIION YEARS BEAT THE GREEK GODS OR HEROES!

RexBlazer1 chapter 26 . 4/24/2017
Is it just me, or does Crystal seem jealous of Spidey's friendship with Korra? And technically speaking, she did start that argument.

mcknight93 chapter 2 . 2/27/2017
My apologies for the review being so long, it actually cut off the rest of what I typed. Here is what else I added.

And finally the last thing I want to add is character bonding. It would be great to have the characters talk and get to know each other more. Don't get me wrong, there are few in your story, but its only a few and glossed over to suddenly move onto another crisis threatening the Earth. It wouldn't hurt to slow down and have characters bond or give a reason to why they are talking. Like for example, in Chapter 1, why are Gwen and Korra are friends so suddenly? What did they find in common or what reasons are they friends for? They talked about not seeing each other around in class then, bam, they are instantly friends. Maybe have the characters looking to have friends, or Korra needs help in biology and Gwen or Peter are the ones to help her since they're smart and they like her attitude. I kind of provide an example of this with what I wrote by having both Korra and Peter both in trouble in biology. That gives them something in trouble, and I have Korra appreciate Peter answering all the questions she didn't know in class. That has Korra admire a characteristic about him, Peter being smart. Having characters that get along or even fight with other adds a lot to their character, which is more fun for the readers. If you need an example, go ahead and ask, I will be more than happy to provide one.

This is a great story and you're a great writer, and I really hope you take some of my advice. Hopefully we can also see more chapters in the future. II would like to hear from you, preferably soon, and know what you think of all this.
mcknight93 chapter 1 . 2/27/2017
I was lucky to stumble upon this story of yours. I had a decent time reading all twenty four chapters, and congrats for writing so many chapters, not a lot of people can do that. This story definitely deserves more reviews than it has. If you want my advice on how this story could be seen more is change the Marvel category to something more visited such as Spider-Man, Avengers Comics, or Avengers Movies. But I can see why you have it in the Marvel section since you are branching out with all of Marvel, what with the Inhumans, and Mephisto integrated into your story.

I also noticed where you get some of your inspiration from chapters like The Spectacular Spider-man and The Avengers Earth's Mightest Heroes, great shows cancelled before their time.

I like what you're doing with the plot of this story, Korra being from her world, but gets thrown into the Marvel world by the Beyonder, and yet he places memories within her as if she actually grew up in Marvel. That can lead to so many story ideas, which you clearly have done based on what you have written so far including Venom stalking both Korra and Peter Parker and The Masters of Evil attacking the Avengers. All these ideas, and reaching twenty four chapters really shows how creative you are. And I look forward to see what you have in mind for future chapters.

Now I do see some areas where you can improve on, and I would like to offer you some criticism. Note this is not flaming or anything as I want to see you get even better and have this story flourish. I will show you how you write and provide some examples to how you can do something different. Whether you go with my advice or not its ultimately up to you.

To begin I want to look at how you are writing the story. You seem to be telling the story rather than showing it. What I mean is there is a lack of description in the writing to really immerse us, the readers into the plot. The attention to detail is what builds the world for the story, and paints a picture for the readers to get interested in.

For example here is a paragraph from Chapter 2 you have written:
(On her way home she noticed that there has been a robbery in Broadway, with all the people running away from the street. Her curiosity got the better of her; she could hear explosions from an apparent battle going on there.) This seems to be sudden writing, as if you are trying to get from point A to point B, to move the plot along. Try making the readers feel the people's fear or Korra's curiosity in that moment.

Here is an example from me:
(A sigh of exasperation escaped Korra's lips as her legs slowly carried her home on the sidewalk, with her hands clutched tightly around the straps of her backpack. Her mind wandered to what happened over the course of the day, making her somewhat glad to be heading back to her apartment. She instinctively knew the way there, so she was free to think carelessly and ignore the people she passed, or the cars that zipped by on the street.

So much occurred in the span of a few hours at school, she really just wanted the day to be over. When she forgot her biology book at home the teacher asked her question after question to which she knew none of the answers to. It didn't help that she was also bombarded with complicated math homework in another class, or how history made her all the more tired. However what was the worst of it all was that she unknowingly found herself in a feud between people she just met today.

Korra tried her best to not throw her head back and let out the loudest groan from her pint up frustration. Drama was the last thing she needed on her mind. She wasn't looking for any trouble yet it seemed to find her in the names of Peter Parker and Eddie Brock. And the crazy situation started because she simply talked to Peter, a guy she had just met in biology this morning!

She had no idea why Peter and Eddie were fighting, but she didn't want to be apart any of it. Peter seemed like a nice enough guy, even if he was late to every class they had together. At least she wasn't the only one the biology teacher was mad at and he was the one who answered all the questions from the teacher, correctly even. She was thankful that it took the heat off of her. He seemed like a very smart person, and he had good friends with Gwen Stacey, Harry Osborn, and Mary Jane Watson. Which was why it surprised her that he was in a feud with Eddie Brock.

Brock was pretty much a stranger to her, though she did note he was oddly forward. With his sudden personality, it actually made sense for him to be in a feud with another person, if he was asking people out after speaking two sentences to someone. Her gut told her to turn his dinner invitation down, and she was glad she listened. He didn't appear like a student judging by stature, and lack of backpack. So why was he at the school to begin with? To stalk or start a fight with Peter and his friends? It seemed ridiculous to her for people that different in age to be arguing.

Suddenly, several high pitched screams blasted through the air, bringing Korra back to the real world. Her eyes widen in surprise when she saw a crowd people frantically running down the streets like a herd of cattle. They pushed or shoved others to get out of their way, if not that then they would climb over cars to escape. Korra raised her arms whenever a person ran by her so she wouldn't fall down and get trampled by their frantic feet. She would get bumped a few times, but overall she was fine. Amidst all the chaos she was able to notice how their faces matched the same look of pure terror.

A crashing sound of metal and glass met her ears from down the road, making her heart flip in her chest. From around of the corner of street an SUV toppled across the black pavement. The headlights broke when it landed front first, and stood up like a tower for a brief second until it fell on its back, collapsing the roof and windows from the sheer force.

Korra watched the event unfold before her. Her brain told her to run. She needed to run with terrified crowd and find another way home, and attempt to call her parents. It sounded like a plan and made perfect sense to her. But... there was another voice from inside her. She wasn't where it came from, yet she somehow thought it seemed familiar. It told her to sprint up ahead and see if everyone was alright and what she could do to help. It sounded stupid and could potentially get her killed.

The young woman let go of her backpack's straps and clenched her fists. Without thinking she ran ahead in the opposite direction of the crowd, and towards the commotion.)

Probably not my best example but I hope it was able to help and make my point. Notice how I wrote this. I started with an action to get the reader's attention and help get an idea of how Korra is feeling with her sigh. This sets up her tone for this moment, and I build on that tone by having her think of her school day by reiterating what you wrote of what happened to her. This adds more to her character and having her think all of this helps the readers what to feel or how she feels. Plus adding other subtle actions such as her walking down the street all tired, her clutching her backpack's straps, or just groaning helps paint a picture for the readers, giving more context, while still building on Korra's emotions.

Then I focused on Korra's perception. I wrote about how she hears the crowd screaming, or sees the car flying through the air. This creates that scene of chaos and panic you are aiming for that goes around Korra, but while still staying with her. I also add layers to them by describing what the people are doing such as shoving others, or how they climb over other cars. This adds to the scenery which helps in the description rather than simply saying, there is a robbery and then running to it. I know it is more to write and can be strenuous in coming up with material that doesn't repeat itself, but it goes a long way with the story.

The next thing I want to bring up is characters. You have a plethora amount of characters that can really add a lot to your story, but the way you write them is kind of wooden. What I mean is they are one dimensional, or one track mind. They don't really branch out personality wise or show other signs of their character to actually add anything to the story. It feels they are simply there and that's it. Remember these are Marvel characters, they are people already written and stamped for approval as interesting characters. There are a lot of good sources to look at characters and understand how they behave and what their personality is like. Try writing them out as characters more by having them act or react to situations.

One situation that comes to mind is in Chapter 4, where Spider Man swoops in to save Korra from Venom. When Spider Man arrives you have Venom call out his last name, which doesn't seem like him to reveal his name like that. Venom is careful and precise, he wants to Peter to suffer, and would keep his identity a secret until he wanted to reveal which would be behind some master plan of his. And when Peter does here is name, you have him take off his mask. While you were right that he would try to help Brock get away from Venom by calling him "bro", but he would fight tooth and nail to hide his secret identity even if part of his name is revealed. He would keep his mask on and brush the name off as if it never happened so people would hopefully forget it. And if anyone tried asking him about the name he would say its not him unless someone pieced together why and caught him red handed. Also why wouldn't Korra care if Peter was Spider Man? She should care very much. In the story you have her idolize the heroes such as the Avengers which fits since her old life she was the Avatar and loved being it. If she found her friend was a hero, she would go crazy and love it, not to mention that he is the famous hero Spider Man.

I stopped reading the moment the words "erased" and "memory" were used.
Aramus13 chapter 24 . 5/13/2016
I agree with SHIELD method though, sacrifice and secret is necessary for self defense.
I'm getting a deja vu feeling reading the scenes, it's like I'm playing marvel ultimate alliance all over again.
