Ohhh, you totally tricked me! Great twist, and a totally realistic misunderstanding. Vic probably wouldn't expect Walt to talk to a therapist in a million years!

I liked Vic's emotional transition, from anguish and irritation to understanding. As for Walt, he's reeling, and I can totally see him being too caught up in his thoughts and worries to realize the implication of Vic's statement before she kissed him. Don't worry, Vic. He'll catch up eventually. ;D

Good use of humor throughout this chapter! I can totally see Walt kicking at an invisible spot on the porch with his boots. I like that he admits to her that he didn't do a good job of grieving Martha or falling in love with his deputy. And his wonderment that she can breathe life into him at the same time she depletes his oxygen. Nicely done!

I've never heard that saying about a cowboy's hat. I like it! Sounds exactly like what Vic would say (and do).

That was brilliant, a totally believable solution. Should have known Walt wouldn't head for the couch but I think he will definitely get there. I so understand Vic's anguish. I would be so disappointed if Walt started seeing someone just as I was getting divorced. You wrote it beautifully, as always. I am so addicted to your short stories. :)

This is a really interesting premise, a different take on how these two might behave toward each other after Vic's divorce has gone through. In a way it makes sense- without the barrier of Vic being married, there's nothing to stop the two of them from being together. That could be an extremely frightening concept, because it means that they have to face up to their feelings and I could see Walt kinda panicking because he's not sure he's ready to do that.

As for Vic, the pain of seeing Walt with someone else- someone he apparently chose to date even with the full knowledge that Vic would soon be free- could definitely wear her down. Perhaps she had expectations, which I wouldn't blame her for when you consider the progression of their relationship. To have Walt continue to hold her at arm's length even once they're both free to try for something more could be devastating and I can understand why Vic would eventually make the decision to leave.

More, please! I love love love me some angst, but please make them happy! ;D
