Touma showing that he's clearly the better person and actually deserved to have Futaba give him a real shot if the mangaka could actually see that the predetermined end result of Kou might not necessarily be the best one. Had they gone about it differently and had a moment where she's happy with Touma but is reminded of Kou, it would've been better.
