Reviews for Opposite Elements
Guest chapter 40 . 6/1
I can't even say a word

You managed to do a complete AU of ATLA without the purple proses and unrealistic expectations, and the quality is seamless and flows smoothly. No words except for wow!

That interaction between Ursa and Zuko was iconic!

Amazing fanfiction.
Fox Boss chapter 40 . 3/28
This is an awesome fic! Any chance of doing a 'reading' of this by the canon cast? Just imagine the reactions!
Deadmann1 chapter 40 . 2/28
I cannot express how glorious this story is. What an experience!
On of the best fics I have ever read.
Only thing i would wish for would have been a scene where Azulon and Somka patched their friendship up again and maybe a scene during Azulons passing.

I really hope you will do more in the Avatae Universe especially with Sokka.

Alliyah Baluyot chapter 40 . 12/26/2019
This was one hell of a journey. thoroughly enjoyed itso much so that i finished it in three days. There are many things that I found striking and original in this story, but there are a couple in particu lar that I would address.

I found your portrayal Ursa to be quite original and I loved her shown as an antagonist, rather than the typical motherly damsel in distress that we usually see in fics.

Azulon, also another character that is stereotyped into being notoriously evil and inhuman, was very innovative and his voice throughout the story was very consistent. I really enjoyed his relationship with our couple and his involvement with the political nature of the Fire Nation.

Iroh's omission was certainly very bold and I was curious to find out how or whether you'd redeem Zuko. I must say, I'm really impressed with how the events spun out and it made my heart melt during this epilogue to find that Zuko did what Iroh had done. Your interweaving of canon material into this story to fill in plot holes/further character development through this AU was rather interesting (in a good way) and I really enjoyed how everything panned out.

My one issue with the story that proved to be quite hard to overlook was the dialogue. I've noticed that you've tried to capture the character's voice based on their personalities, but I found on many occasions that it became too formal on charcaters like Sokka, Katara and even Ty Lee and Zuko. Some of the dialogue kind of makes them sound robotic in scenes where they should be relaxed. I think Azula, Ozai, Ursa, Zhao and Azulon were the only characters that I found I could hear their voice through the dialogue. Sokka was really hard to picture because he was just so formal, but in saying that, his personality was still conveyed through the formalities of his speech which still made it very enjoyable to read. Not to mention his witticisms and quips were rather entertaining.

Overall, I thank you for this amazing story, definitely one of my favourites.

Azula drugs and abducts Sokka, to bring him to savety?
Okay...thats pretty lovely. And nothing less is to be expected from her, Im in love.
Leeam-Devin chapter 8 . 10/9/2019
That was really fun to read. I like it how old Azulon becomes more than the grumpy old Firelord, who wanted one of his grandchildren dead. Im looking forward to the next chapter.

CajunBear73 chapter 40 . 9/17/2018
You had your work cut out for you with a few characters from AtLA, and 'redeeming' Azula is one of the toughest in that world...But you had Sokka, a blooming package of intelligence, compassion, wit, wisdom, cunning and brilliance to counterbalance the cesspool that was Fire Nation Politics, Society, Family and Friends...when he appeared at the Palace.

Like water, from the Southern Water Tribe, Sokka flowed into the lives of quite a few in his new home. He adjusted and improvised, gently where he could, with striking steel where he had to and helped nudge the core of those who would lead the nation into a new age...without the legacy of the past driving fiery carnage as the Fire Nation's Right of Rule.

Bringing a new aspect into the Royal Family, compassion and love, those who appreciated it only saw it from afar until they drew closer to something that accepted them, loved them and help them become better people before they made the decisions that drove the Fire Nation's future.

And in all of this...Azula benefited most of all in the love Sokka gifted her with. She finally received it, without strings or coercion and flourished from it. So, did Azulon...and that aided Azula and Sokka when they needed it the most, or the Nation would have fallen into the ruin of bloody civil war.

Best scenes from Sokka's and Azula's interactions? When they acted together as a team, or when alone and bringing the love the other had for them as they struck out separately. Sokka showing Azula his love for her in gentle moments were wonderful, but the best scene, I thought...was when they sparred together, with Sokka giving her a 'last kiss before dying at her side'. Her blue-dwarf-star fire went super-nova white for a moment and I snorted a laugh at the imagery. If that didn't say he loved her, with her being accepting of loving him...nothing else did.

Enjoyed the journey of this AU and of all pairings of this genre, SokLa is my favorite...with SokMai a close second, sharing with Toph or Ty Lee right behind...Sokka works well with women like those four, very well.

Incredible story, I couldn't stop reading it. All is perfect and so well write, from the character's descriptions to their reactions. I'm speechless
Lec chapter 40 . 4/5/2018
I don’t know if you still read this, but I really enjoyed OE. I always liked tales of courtly intrigue, coupled with believable relationships. OE in my humble opinion is one of the best AU’s out there, thank you for writing this romantic tale of double dealing and backstabbing fire nation style!
