Oh this was a good one! What a great look into John! I like that you showed his complete thought process during this and didn't shy away from the difficulty of it. I think it must be really hard to write John as a character because while it would be easy to paint him as a abusive, alcoholic I don't see that as the case. And while it seems likely he might have hit his boys at one time or another it was something he didn't take lightly and didn't intend. I love that you captured this within this story. Such a great job and a truly enjoyable read!

I cried so hard at the end. I was listening to Gavin Rosedale Love Remains the same which in the chorus says drink for all that we have lost and the mistakes we have made. Very well written. Made me cry while listening to that song. :)

I have a profound hatred of John and find his excuses and the way he "honors" his wife (with violence and drunkenness and all manner of abuse of his sons) to be vile and disgusting.

Great story. I loved your characterizations. All three of the characters were exactly what they should be for this story. No one was too over the top. I like John, I really do. But I don't mind stories where he is a jerk, because let's face it. Sometimes he was.
Sam and Dean where perfect too. Dean was strong, but respectful of John as much as he could be. Sam was every bit the teenager, but was perfectly traumatized by the events without going overboard. Great job. I kind of wished there was more. I would like to see the reconciliation.
