I know I'm super late to this story, but I enjoyed reading it! Now I'm just going to sit here and be angry about Renata for a few minutes.

The ending is sad but fitting for Oswald ;;-;;

I always wondered how Oswald ended up working for Mooney and I can definitely see it happening like this. I'm enjoying this story so far!

I was not expecting that ending at all. Though, in retrospect, considering who we're talking about, I really probably should have, hahahah. I was so sorry about what happened to Renata, but I like how you stayed true to Penguin's character more. You really delved in deep with the twisted rationalizations of why he did it too. They almost had me nodding along...which is a slightly disturbing thought. Something to reexamine and have an existential crisis over later, perhaps...

Wow! This is the best Penguin story in the Gotham fandom, honestly. I've read several and given up halfway through because his character seems to degenerate into someone other than Penguin. You kept him true to his origins and character and yet gave him depth and emotion. He comes across as horrifying for what he chooses to do yet with just a touch of sympathy because his motivation is savings Renata from a terrible fate in his view. Twisted as that viewpoint may be, it fits Penguin. Also, you managed to create an original character that I loved and who was worthy to be with Oswald. A pity she ends up as she does. Thanks for being brave and giving us a story far different from the watered down, lollipop versions of Oswald that dominate the Gotham fandom. Kudos! :D

Okay, so from the opening chapter, as well as the title, I figured that this wouldn't be a happy ending at all. However, I got so caught up and invested in Renata, that I actually ignored the blatant warning signs I'd spotted from day one. I so badly wanted Oswald to choose his heart over his ambition, but he wouldn't be the damaged guy we all love so much if he had done, so I'm happy with the resolution for this story. It makes sense, and works out completely. I'm only sad that he killed Renata, after showing her such a bright and hopeful future. Especially seeing as he'd promised to never hurt her in an earlier chapter. This story just shows how messed up Gotham City is that it creates characters who think it's kind to kill someone before something else does. Oh and I had to reread over part of the last chapter when Oswald was starting to choke Renata, because my brain couldn't accept what it had seen. I had a total double-take and I just about flipped out when I saw that he was killing her. Congrats to you for writing a truly horrific, absolutely heart-wrenching ending. There are not many authors that can create something light and dark all at once, but you have achieved it amazingly.

I swear, that is the saddest thing I've ever read. Well, sad from Renata's point of view. Pengy just thinks he savec her or whatever. This was MARVELOUSLY well written. I am very impressed! I loved it, even though it didn't exactly end the way I wanted it to.

A-MAZING! I loved this so much that I had to read it two times in a row. I also ordered "Pain and Prejudice" the very next day after reading this(which was so flippin' great!). The bonus chapter was such a treat! You write so well for Oswald- fantastic read!

Wow, I wish I had found this story earlier because it's brilliant. For starters, your writing style is fantastic- gorgeous imagery, perfect characterization, and a solid plot line made this fan fiction one of my favorites. I have to say, I'm quite envious of your word-smithing abilities, it's at a caliber that I strive for and very rarely attain in my own writing.
As for the story itself, I appreciated the way you wrote it from Penguin's first-person point of view. Being inside of his mind was fascinating, and you captured the essence of who he is so well, almost as if the creator was writing it himself. I've only just begun to get into the world of Batman in the last couple of years, so I'm still a novice, but even if you did not mention your prior knowledge with this canon, I would have assumed you did your homework. Staying true to the character's original makeup in a fanfiction is crucial (in my opinion) to creating a decent spin off, and I believe you nailed it on the head! I've already rambled a lot haha, but I'll wrap-up by saying the end surprise, as tragic as it was (poor lovely Renata!), really was the icing on the cake. As much as I wanted both Oswald and Renata to win just this once, it could never be unless Oswald deviated from his nature. So, bravo. I'm sure it was tough to write and it definitely made me rethink how I will write coupling fan fictions in the future. Thank you for an amazing read!

Wow...Well I started to read this story when it came out and when "Gotham" was just starting near the end of last year but for some reason I stopped. Yet thanks to my sister who expressed her grief over the ending and wanted to share it with me, I read it all through. I adore your writing. You have some amazing talent. The contemplation, psychoanalysis, and thought process was so intricate but easy to understand as if to say "AH that is what that emotion is like written on paper!" So few can do that, I can't even do that half the time! I love the portrayal with Penguin and I understand what you did there with the ending; it fits in perfectly with the canon and though it is disagreeable and harsh it is true to the nature of the story. The bonus chapter was excellent too because I could see the more well known penguin of the comic books and movies but in Robin lord Taylor's enactment which means you or the canon put the actor and the infamous character together seamlessly fooling me to thinking that it was an expert of the real stories of the comics but in the Gotham setting!(If that made any sense) I am glad that I found this story and am glad to have witnessed such talent! Bravo and I'm eager to read what you have in the future! God Bless! :D

This is the best Penguin story on this site and the ending was incredibly perfect. This fits Penguin's character far better than the romantic stories with happy endings. Thanks for staying true and having a dream. :)
