Amazing job with this story! I love your writing style, and the way you portrayed Kirk throughout the story. These are always some of my favorite stories, because I've always seen Kirk's character as something undefinably /more/, and these kind of stories tend to portray that perfectly when written well - and this one is.

I know this was all a character development thing, and it was especially awesome for Kirk, even if it was terrible. However, I just can't get the image of Sulu basically pulling a classic movie ninja move with his sword from out of my head... It was actually kind of a small but great twist. I loved the interactions, and this was really amazing.

This was just beautiful, I love it all, it was amazing. Some of the best writing I've seen in a while. You got Jim's character spot on in here. Well done.
