Oh this is fascinating. There's lots of nuances of their friendship in here, how deep the brotherly bond is between them and you conveyed it really well. Smart move on how you conveyed Kaneki's thoughts, the sheer disjointedness of the letters was great. It's a tragedy, but a lovely one.

I honestly think TG is going to be the end of me one day. The tragedy ,the irony, the angst, the FEELS.
And you did a really great job there, so BEAUTIFULLY written, but also heartbreaking as hell. *sobs*
Their bonding is something that touches me strongly, willing to sacrifice for the other's sake and all that, it just runs so deep. arghh, and makes the whole thing a lot sadder.
I appreciated that you didn't write it into bromance, since I believe there are still ways to form strong bonding other than romantic relationships.
When I first read that scene in manga, I was drowning in feels (and maybe considering to smash my laptop) Hide just appeared there and it felt...abrupt, surprising, foreboding. And then the next thing we see is that Hide was most likely gone, and I was like: huh? no way? no no no. NO what tHE FU-!? *wails*
Anyway, Tokyo Ghoul deserves much more attention, really.
