Guest chapter 17 . 7/4 I just got into Tokyo ghoul because of quaruntine, and wow your writing is amazing. I just binged this story and I love the humanity of the SI. Most self inserts don’t deal w the actual gravity of the situation, but you do. And not in a fake depressed edgy way, but it feels like a real person. And honestly? Bravo on the parents. I like how you show that they just want they’re daughter back, but they’re also fucking up w their parenting. Theyre the quintessential micromangers. I also really like the hints of who Toki was before the accident. The sketchbooks, the hidden razors, it’s amazing. She’s a real character, just like everyone else in the story. And don’t get me started on characterization. I love the si and Hides friendship, and hide is perfectly encapsulates in this story. So glad you decided to include him more, I love him so much. I’m also glad your giving your SI a break in California. Not gonna lie, I was expecting Toki to run away and live w Kaneki or hide before she went to California. But I think it was a good decision to get away from the main plot (even the most well adjusted person would struggle with that shit show, let alone Toki). You have such a good writing style, nothing seems forced, and you let the characters fuck up. I know I keep saying, “I also like this and this and this” but I seriously like so much about your story. Ugh, amazing :-) |

RimK10 chapter 17 . 7/1 Glad to have you back! That cliffhanger tho. |
ShadowPillow chapter 17 . 7/1 Whooo what a chapter, and what a cliffhanger. I have to say it again; Sandra is just such an MVP. "I'm you're aunt." She's the damned coolest badass I've ever seen. I can't tell you how much I like her. Also. The anxiety and depression depicted here are very real and well done, in that they also show things in a realistic and analytically way... "Agnostic apathy" and the analogy of waves of crashing down, then sinking into this lassitude, struck me both. I can tell though, I think, you have this under control, because you are able to pour it into this chapter without it overtaking everything, without muting the realistic characterizations of others like Sandra and casting them into this deep depression too. It walks a tight line, but in a good way that everyone can learn from yet relate too, I think. I really commend you for that. And I hope to see a journey of recovery with Toki, where she's able to figure shit out and get her new life more together. I think she will really have to tell Sandra fully, to get something settled inside herself at some point, to really be able to fully approach her as /herself/, as she did her for a bit, but this was a really good start for healing. You need other people to heal inside; just sleeping and resting doesn't restore your energy anymore at that point. I'm not entirely sure if ghoul boy will help with that - but hey, maybe it'll add some more excitement to her life! (As long as no one gets eaten/killed right now, heh...) |
