That was amazing.
I read the original before I read this one, the rewrite... I can't even comprehend the incredible difference in qualities. The rewrite is so... Well done.
The characterization was consistent, believable, enjoyable. It felt right. It didn't feel imposed. The emotions and sensations went beyond the words, a reader such as I could easily feel every bit of feeling that the characters expressed. Their actions only solidified the already concrete feeling of the story.
The plot was refreshing, in my opinion, but honestly, I cannot get over how well done the characters were in this story. That, and the word choice, are what really set this story apart from the others. Keep up the good work.
