Poor Cammie. Sweet story

Awww I LOVE LOVE LOVE this story SO SO SO much. I LOVE how seriously Catherine and Steve take pet ownership. That is so AMAZINGLY in character. And I love what LOVING and COMPASSIONATE pet parents they are. PERFECT!

LOVE them sitting up simultaneously. SO CUTE! And bolting out of bed when they hear the retching. Every pet parent has dealt with that. The only thing worse is when you hear it and you realize the animal is standing on your bed. LOL GREAT WORK!

Poor Cammie and the forlorn expression. PERFECTLY described.

GREAT WORK showing what Steve was feeling by having Catherine notice the edge in his voice that belied the calm tone. WELL DONE!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Steve going into professional mode. SO ADORABLE.

LOVE the evidence gloves and the tongue depressor. We're never anywhere near that prepared at my house when the need arises. Note to self-buy gloves and tongue depressors.

Again, GREAT WORK with using the tendons in Steve's neck, a physical sign, to show the readers where he's at emotionally. VERY NICE!

SO PERFECT with Cammie bolting downstairs and whining at the door and the reactions of her humans to her distress. VERY NICE!

I'm calling Danny. Awwwwwwwwwwwwww LOVE THAT!

LOVE that Steve's concern puts Catherine on edge and raises her concern level. Again-SPECTACULAR characterization.

ADORE ADORE ADORE Steve evaluating her breathing and having thought to ask Esther what her normal vitals would be. SO PERFECTLY IN CHARACTER!

A shoe? BWAH! You laugh-till the first time your dog throws up an entire flip flop. Barely chewed.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Danny predicting she hit the rug because YEP EVERY TIME! AWESOME!

ADORE the little moment where Danny realizes Steve is really freaked and offers to come to the animal hospital. BEAUTIFUL and very subtly done.

LOVE Steve carrying Cammie. Family of three. Sniffle.

AWESOME having the circles Catherine is rubbing on Steve's back be a comfort to them both. SPECTACULAR!

FANTASTIC having the vet start off by giving Cammie's condition right away. If only they all did that.

We're very careful. Awwwww FABULOUS characterization and such a NICE MOMENT.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the tightly clasped white knuckled hand holding which morphs to comfortably entwined hands. VERY SWEET.

LOVE Steve and Catherine bragging on Cammie. AWESOME!

ADORE the vet guessing it was their first dog. Heh. And Catherine's need to explain why they never had a pet before.

LOVE Danny and Esther's easy interaction.

ADORE that neither Steve nor Cath slept till after Cammie managed to keep down her first meal. SO SWEET and so in character. And that Steve then rationalized letting her sleep on the bed. LOVE THIS!

ADORE that Esther brought some chicken. Awwwwww Esther is a GREAT character.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Danny explaining what a charger is. And the looks and smiles between Steve and Catherine when he mentions pediatricians.

GREAT WORK with Danny calling the ER and busting Steve trying to badge into the x-ray room. PERFECT!

The reaction of both Steve and Catherine to Danny's talk about a teething fever got me right in the feels!

GREAT GREAT WORK on this one partner. It's a true MASTERPIECE. The PERFECT mix of emotion and humor.

Absolutely fantastic story, my friend. I love the way you've used your knowledge of these characters and of doggy emergencies to craft such a wonderful story that highlights the growing family dynamic in the McGarrett/Rollins household. And you do so with magnificent dialogue and outstanding physical details that make for a warm and engaging experience for the reader.

Their instant alertness, both moving into action-mode but with a undeniable level of concern running through them at poor Cammie's plight - absolutely pitch perfect characterization

You create this incredibly palpable tension in the opening scene through Steve and Catherine's dialogue and action. Even though you had promised you could never make Cammie really sick - and even though I've read it before - that tension is absolutely still there. Amazing job.

Outstanding idea to have them call Danny - the person they trust completely to help in this, and any, situation

Excellent characterization with Steve shifting into professional mode - evaluating Cammie's vitals - but still with that ever-present concern for her, and for Catherine - love him putting his hand on her thigh as she shifts closer. Also that he would have asked Esther for normal vitals - probably very early on :-)

Catherine wondering aloud if it was something they had done - salt water during the swim, bad chicken - excellent job, and having Danny reassure them it wasn't anything they did is right on point for him.

Danny recognizing the concern in Steve's voice and softening his tone to again reassure them - awesome, awesome job. Danny's words calm the reader just as they do Steve and Cath

Wonderful physical details throughout the whole story letting the reader feel the tension right along with Steve and Cath - Steve holding his waistband where his badge would be, Catherine rubbing circles on his back to calm them both, and, of course, holding hands as they talk to the vet without even realizing they're doing it. Wonderful, wonderful job.

Yay Esther! I will always, always be happy to see her. And you've nailed her character here - not only would she most definitely come over to check on Cammie (and Steve and Cath), but she would absolutely bring food :-). Also perfectly done that she would encourage them to get some rest!

Love that Danny brought over rugs. Love, love, love!

Then that FANTASTIC charger conversation. Start to finish it is fabulous. That Danny has Steve pegged as the charger ("takes one to know one"), Steve's glance at Catherine at the word "pediatrician", the image of Steve trying to "badge" his way into the X-ray room, and of course the little SEAL pup in a cammo onesie :-)

This is such a wonderful, heart-warming, feel-good story that will never cease to make me happy every time I read it. Bravo, my friend!

Loved Danny's comments about the rug. Danny's right. They will always hit the damn rug! Also McG pacing and freaking at the vets. Of course he did...gotta love that man!

Tho Cath's statement, Steve's never had a pet before. OMG, that hit me in the gut! Of course he hadn't. What a life that man has had.

A "charger" is a perfect description! I will share that with my teacher colleagues. We definitely have colloquialisms of our own ("s-mother" being one.). But Steve will be a "charger" daddy for sure!

And Danny and the throw rugs is absolutely spot on! The pups never miss the rugs.

Another terrific story. I'm so glad you're keeping Catherine alive and with Steve. The closer we get to the premiere, the more I wonder if they will even mention her being gone (insert heavy sigh.)

Great story. I have a 14.5 year old English Springer Spaniel. He had GDV at age 10, lost 90% of his eye sight to cataracts and 90% of his hearing to old age. He tripped in December and tore his ACL. He has been through so much but he keeps bouncing back. He is a very happy and loving dog. Needless to say, the vet clinic knows me as I park the car. Every time I think it is his time, the vet says wait 3 days, and every time Scout bounces back like nothing is wrong. He wags his tail, bounces around and howls every time I come home.

Totally relate to this story. Our dog, Daisy, has a bad stomach and often has to eat chicken/rice and take Pepcid. You always feel so helpless because they can't tell you what's wrong with them. You totally captured those feeling with Steve and Catherine. Thank you for a great story!

LOVED this! My absolute favorite part was Danny's re-telling of his conversation with the clinic receptionist and Steve's attempts to force his way into the examination area. That was absolutely priceless! :-)

This story is told with so much love and caring I can tell what a loving doggie Mom you are. Yes, I've been in the same situation and I guess I'm the charger in the family, both with kids and pets. I love this so very much.

What a cute story! It's funny to picture a flustered Steve with a sick puppy! Love to see how he will be with his own little "SEAL-pup" baby! Thank you again for a very delightful story!

I'm laughing because... they ALWAYS hit the rugs! ALWAYS! This was well done, it is panic inducing when the fur kids get sick, our babies can't tell you what's wrong. I think that's exactly how Steve would be.
