I must confess that I had postponed reading this story, one part of me hoped to find it funny, the other, well, I just trembled thinking that it would turn out to be a sad parody like many that abound out there, that far from being funny they only end up being sadly silly in the Best of cases.
In the end, my curiosity won and I dared to read it, as a result, an excellent story before bed, that made me laugh and remember all those fun moments that I love so much in the original series, with nimoy, kelley and doohan saying the best lines. .
Thank you for sharing your work, hopefully we can see more stories like this one.

As soon as I read that, for some reason I could hear a dry voice in my head (probably Spock, but could've been McCoy too) commenting that neither of those alternatives were very desirable...

I really don't know where the "Kirk's going to kill the doctor" part came from... but then that's how rumors work, isn't it. At any rate, this is an entertaining bit of silliness and is making me smile. Thanks!

This is how my brain is summarizing things so far.

Chapters 1-6ish: Reports of his [to be] death have been greatly exaggerated.
Chapters 6ish-7ish: Reports of everyone's deaths have been greatly exaggerated.
Chapter 8: [communications gives up] ALL reports have been greatly exaggerated! Yer all drunk! Confine yerselves t' quarters or I'll hypo you!

I'll agree that it isn't right when a child dies before the parent. A few months ago, a friend of mine died at age twelve, long before her parents probably will.
