Anyways, I'm really, REALLY glad that I've found this story. I finished playing Off a while ago (did all the endings, and they all destroyed me), and my first impulse was to see if there was any ongoing fanfic that I could find. And lo and behold, I come across this amazingly written story!

I have heard of AUs (can they be called AUs?) of the Player being an actual entity in the game, and this does it very well. Although it seems like maybe she isn't? Who knows!

I also love the way you've written the Batter. He's possessive, terrifying, and all around creepy, which all combine to make the scariest frickin dude ever.
And the idea about the guardians staying behind? Also awesome.

About the Elsen: interesting...and I think that the Batter used to be a king of some sort, maybe ruling side by side with the Queen?

Amazing story and chapter! I have a bunch to say so this review is going to be long but I love this story a lot and can't wait for the next chapter.

Rereading the story and looking at OFF canon by what Mortis Ghost gives us, I had always thought that the Batter is often seen like the Queen, being a ruler as well. Because the brief moments of Hugo show that the Batter is someone special to him. There's also the moment where the picture of the Boxer was stained red that something happened to the Batter that makes him act like he is, and the idea of purifying the zone. The mention of Before does prove that the Batter wasn't always known as the Batter.
I've only had a couple of theories and with the reveal of the Elsen and Spectre origins, this could be a possibility. One of them is that the Batter is like the Guardians and like the soon to be seen Queen, but something had happened that the Batter left and never returned. This is somewhat established and the Batter couldn't be a Spectre nor Elsen due to being present during their creation, at least that's what the Batter told us. It is possible that through his eyes, he's lying, but being in his POV doesn't show us the other perspectives other than the Omakes.
I played with the idea that the Batter is like the Queen, at least with the ability to control Add-Ons as seen with that one Omake with Hugo and how the Queen has Delta. And with the evidence that he has been there far longer than the other Guardians, and the constant resetting of the universe. And the reluctance to think about the Queen and Hugo shows evidence that those three have a close connection with one another.
Characters like Zacharie and the two cats have their own category, and I feel like, with the change of canon, those three may have more relevance later. As much as I want Valerie to be seen later, healthy and with the Judge, I feel like he won't be making another appearance unless in an Omake. However, the Judge would return and maybe warn the Player before the Decision or during it.

Sorry for rambling too much though, I have a lot of feelings for this story and it's making me want to boot up my nearly 10 year old laptop just to play the game again.

I might be totally off the mark, but are you saying that the batter was once a Elsen? Or perhaps a mix hybrid of a Elsen and a Specter? Since you mention that the Elsen are always in pain/suffering, and Batter is always seems to be in pain, although it is express though hunger. After all, as shown through this recent chapter, some Elsen could break 'free' of the cycle. Was Batter one of the few that could do this? Or was he able to become stronger vs other free Elsen because he had a goal that was attached to a physical being? AKA the player.

Can't wait to find out more! You have taken the game and it's limits to a whole different level and I'm loving it!
