I must admit, I'm impressed. You got Annie's dad out of the way in a manner I hadn't seen before. Most of the modern AUs I've read have him be an abusive alcoholic arse, but the vagueness here, or maybe it's just me being a blind idiot who reads too fast, plays into the appeal there, so mad props there. Secondly, I love your twist of the asylum/institute. It gave me a feeling of resemblance to the asylum AUs I've read for Soul Eater, so even more props there. I also love the little look into the mind of Armin at the end of each chapter. In all honesty, I was a bit crushed when I saw that it hadn't been updated since February, because you have an amazing thing here. I have nothing but praise for you, and cannot find flaw in the plot. There are only two gripes I could rationalize another having. One is that the pacing feels a tad rapid, however, that's a very subjective thing, and may be a part of the next quality of note, that is, the vagueness of some areas. Should someone not, should we say, have the best perception levels, some of the stuff that takes a bit of effort to figure out would likely go straight over their heads. Honestly? I wouldn't change it. As I said, you have a glorious creation here, and it would be a damn shame to let it go to waste.

I think it's actually fairly appropriate for the kiss to be kind of understated. If this story was being told from ARMIN'S perspective, then, yes, that would be weird, but I think Annie's more wondering that someone is in love with her than that he's kissed her. XD And yes, Reiner, take lessons from Armin. :D He NAILED that one. :D That was endearing how he felt bad about not spending any money on her gift even though what he did was so much more meaningful. :)

Did Armin just not think anyone would ever fall in love with him or did he think he'd never fall in love?
